DO WANT.
Disappointed about the battery life, was hoping for at least 8hrs+. Very happy with the price tag though!
So who's getting one?

I had been waiting to get back home to a machine that could actually look at the stuff in detail, but I was just too tempted.
Looks good, though I can't really look at anything spiffy on this machine at the school. Price isn't bad either.

I like it - I don't know how fast accessing a CD rom to install something would be over a network though...

To me it reminds me the style of the Sony Vaio but a thiner. I never checked any of the specs as I am a PC person and have never tried to use a Mac

Looks cool, but it has a permanent battery. I think Steve is losing his mind. Why do they refuse to let customers change their batteries?

Because it's a MacBook Air - even the RAM is soldered on. All the additional case work to add clip off/screw off panels, slots, etc. would have bumped up the size considerably (well considerably for a MacBook Air

).
I think the catch line for the Air about it's thickest part being thinner than the thinnest part of the Sony VT said it all. Apple continues to prove its superiority in product design and development...
I do agree with the battery problem make no mistake. I'd be more comfortable if it were replaceable rather than needing to send in the whole laptop for what amounts for a repair job, not just a simple buy, remove old, replace, be happy. I'd also prefer a slightly larger screen, and a processor matching the MacBook Pro. No doubt once this initial version goes out there'll be some updates and maybe product diversification in the pipeline - which would make me hesitant to buy one right now. I still need a faster laptop so the MacBook Pro still looks the better buy (depending on your valuation of the obvious cool factor

).

I don't see any advantage of a laptop being thin.
Regarding the battery ... it being soldered means you can't carry a spare for when you're on a flight or something. That is stupid.

Yeah, the battery issue could be a deal break for me.
I just bought my MacBook last month and am still happy with it, glad i didnt wait for this. It is far to pricey at the moment for what i would use it for.
Having said that, i will probably get one in 12 months or so.

Why not just get a video ipod or a iphone or something? This is a really stupid, for 700 euro more than a regular mac book, you lose everything! You pay to have something thin, what good does that really do for you?
No cd/dvd drive? Seriously? Common, if a friend of mine has a movie that I want to see on DVD I watch it on my computer. Now with this laptop, I can't even get NetFlix and watch them. I can't bring a booklet of DVDs on a trip with me (and don't say rip them to your HD because that takes forever and is questionably illegal and I often borrow dvds/cds from friends at the last minute before a trip).
This is seriously the most ridiculous thing I have seen MAC come out with that everyone is going to rant about how awesome it is. A video iPod is the equivilant of this thing but cheaper and smaller. Or maybe a iPhone. Either way you save lots of money and its smaller than this laptop no matter how thin it is.
Silly MACs.

I think its going to appeal to the business market rather than lesuire. If your a salesman for example, having a latop that small, yet all it's missing is an attached dvd rom, it's going to be perfect. Your rarely going to use the dvd drive on the move in that situation. Even if you spend all day in an office moving around from meeting to desk to meeting.
For the lesuire market, I agree, you probably would be better off with one of the other laptops instead. The fact is it's small, and extremely portable for a notebook computer - and that's going to appeal to A LOT of people.

And how am i going to run all my usual applications on one of those!?
You dont lose everything, nearly everything that has been removed, i don't use on my current MacBook.

Seriously, i cannot remember the last time i used a CD/DVD apart from installing the OS.
If you need a CD/DVD, then this isn't for you obviously, but for a lot of people, me included, i dont need an optical drive on my laptop.
Also, the lack of connectivity doesn't even bother me. i have a MacBook, and
never have
anything connected to it.
Just becuase this wouldn't be suitable for YOU, doesn't mean this isn't great for someone else, like me.

A video iPod equivalent...i think not. Again, tell me how i am going to use my every day apps on one of those things efficiently.
I do agree that it is slightly over priced, and hence why i will wait 12 months before making a purchase.

I like it. I think they removed exactly the right things - I hardly ever use the optical drive, and the add-on drive is perfect, IMO. The price is excellent as well for what you get, once you adjust for Mac.
But I don't think I'll be buying one - it was just a tad disappointing on two fronts: the battery is only 5 hours. I realize they wanted to slim it down, but a loooong battery life is a big selling point for me. I was hoping for 10+, 5 hours just isn't enough of an upgrade over what I have now.
The other thing that disappointed me was the display resolution. 1280x800 was run-of-the-mill 2 years ago. It's just not that much space, not even on a 13.3" screen.
Everything else seems perfect, but ultimately the battery life killed it for me. If they doubled the capacity, even at the expense of width/weight - I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

Looks amazingly beautiful. I can definitely see me buying one at some point.
It's good they ditched the drive. I think I've used mine a single time, in the last 3 years. And I could have easily used a usb-stick then.
And portability is a big plus. Compact, light, easy to handle. I have a macbook pro and use a macbook once in a while and between those the macbook is much better to travel with, even though the pro is already quite thin. Well, not so thin anymore, compared to the new air
The fact that the battery isn't removable, well I can understand the reasoning. If they had build in a removable battery the Air would have been thicker and less compact. They made a clear choice, as Apple often does. If everything is compromised, you end up with a much worse product.
