Ok, I know this hit the front page of Digg, and you guys have already probably seen it... however, I'm excited:
last.fm blog
last.fm blog wrote:Something we’ve wanted for years—for people who visit Last.fm to be able to play any track for free—is now possible. With the support of the folks behind EMI, Sony BMG, Universal and Warner—and the artists they work with—plus thousands of independent artists and labels, we’ve made the biggest legal collection of music available to play online for free, the way we believe it should be.
Let me just say "Awesome".
Awesome.

Nice, no more of these "0:30" tracklistings.

Is it just me or does Last.fm seem to be insanely slow loading?

If I read their blog correctly, they didn't get _every_ song known to mankind on their site available for free, but they DID get quite a few (thousand).

Pandora got banned in the UK!
Also, yes. It does seem pretty slow right now. I've been using last.fm for awhile, and this is the slowest I've ever seen it. Maybe they're getting some extra traffic.

Last.fm isn't just a Pandora clone ya know, I barely ever use its radio for example, I just like to monitor which artists/songs I listen to most and potentially find people with similar music tastes. I do like Pandora's radio more because of Pandora's Jar (allows saving of songs as mp3s

).

last.fm is the only way to go if you live outside the USA. If you live outside the USA and try to visit pandora you get directed straight to here:
http://www.pandora.com/restricted
Me personally, I have a friend who has a huge collection of MP3s and very good taste who lives in the USA so he will send me a DVD full of mp3s every so often to keep me listening to new stuff that I know will be good.

Lately I've been using
http://www.deezer.com/, since it allows me to listen to virtually any song anywhere with an internet connection, as well as a great playlist management system. It also learns your taste in music the more you use it, so there are options it will search out new songs that it predicts you might enjoy. Quite enjoying that feature.
I'm not exactly sure what last.fm is exactly, it seems more like a myspace clone than a online music library player.

I've only just bothered to check out last.fm ater reading this thread. Just about everything I listened to (mostly Breakbeat) was full-length

Played a bit of Evil Nine, Adam Freeland, Koma & Bones, Drummatic Twins, Soul of Man. Looks like a great site.
Seems like whenever I try to put my credit card details in iTunes lately I just get an error that the payment gateway is down and I should try later. Then I try later and get an error that my session has timed out

Btw, I started using
http://songza.com/ lately - granted, it plays only tracks it can found on youtube, but the music I listen to is usually available there. Interface is great, but it's bandwidth-hungry.
Edit: It seems they added more music providers - the track I listen to at the moment is streamed from mp3.juno.co.uk

Ha, last.fm just went up on my "awesome" scale when I downloaded its standalone player and just left it playing tracks from a genre I like (no guesses?)

Seems pretty cool that you can network with your friends and keep up-to-date on what everyone's listening to as well... that's if I had any other friends who were actually using it

"I'm kieran42, and I'll be your friend"
does that not sound ridiculous? Like something out of a G.I. Joe PSA.

I'm
http://last.fm/user/weirdan (as you might have guessed). Besides, there's a last.fm widget in my signature on these forums.
