Re: Happy Australia day!
It's just kinda like the american thanksgiving. Kind of a celebration of the colonisation of australia. It's actually fairly offensive when you learn about the history of australia and how the land was occupied. But they celebrate it anyway
To put into perspective how much the western world took advantage of aboriginal people during its colonisation, the entire plot of land upon which greater Melbourne is built was purchased for a set of tools from an aboriginal tribe. The only problem being, land and everything natural is of great sentimental value to aborigines and they had no concept of ownership, so they didn't actually understand exactly what we were about to turn that mass of land into, they were just happy to have a few tools.

Thats pretty much the story behind Canada too.To put into perspective how much the western world took advantage of aboriginal people during its colonisation, the entire plot of land upon which greater Melbourne is built was purchased for a set of tools from an aboriginal tribe.

It gave me the perfect opportunity to break the ice with some girls who were dressed up with Aussie face paintings and not wearing many clothes.

Happy Australia day (it might be later than the rest, but hey, a celebration is a celebration).
