Tell me something I might not know about....

Post by Chris Corbyn »

Maybe this can be a regular thread?

This one is: Mac OS X

How about some handy shortcuts that are less well known? :)

Apple + Shift + H: Home folder

There's also a way to decrease the amount of time slidey 3D-ish menus take to fold out to near instant, which I like, you should be able to find it with a google or two. I recommend it.

Apple + Ctrl + Alt + 8.

Inverts the colors on your screen so your less likely to be seen in the dark hacking into someone's wifi :P

Hold contol, then scroll the mousewheel, or use two finger scrolling on your track pad and your screen will zoom in and out

Ok, windows users are going to laugh about this one:
Apple+Shift+4, then hitting spacebar will make a screenshot of the current window.
related:
Apple+Shift+4, then dragging the pointer across some area will make a screenshot of that area

Apple wins then - taking a screenshot of a selected area is far more useful than a full screenshot you have to edit and crop in Paint ;).

There's also the "grab" utility which might be easier to remember than that shortcut.
Apple wins then
...on everything except keyboard accessibility. It's really bad. The shortcuts are often inconsistent, ill-conceived and, all too often, completely absent.

Back on topic: does anyone use automator / apple script? I've never touched these things.
