Computer chair discussion!

I have a problem with the computer chairs I buy. They're leather, nice, executive... whatever, but the cushioning wears out with my excessive usage. Then I have to put pillows on it or sit on a cushion until I buy a new chair.

The most comfortable chair I've ever used at my computer was a $10 fishing chair made out of canvas. Unfortunately it was very flimsy and broke after a couple of months.

I'm looking for a chair that's sturdy enough to be a computer chair and take excessive use, but I'm not looking for one that has a finite seat to it (ie some padding/cushioning). I'm looking for one that is like made out of ... mesh.. or canvas or something similar. Don't care about the back (although it has to have one lol), and it must have armrests.

I've found this chair, but I dunno. Do you guys know of any chairs like I'm describing?.. or a particular keyword to give me that i can lookup? I don't know what the type of chair I want is called.

edit| holy crap, these "mesh" chair designs go for like $500-$1500. I have like a $200 budget for a chair. I'd like to keep it under $100 though.

My chair is just like those big leather grilled spam, but instead has an airbreathing meshy type surface with miles of cusioning. It's lasted over a year of constant sitting with no physical sign of wear. Only thing is all my cats hairs constantly stick all over it

It is however the best chair I have ever had, and only cost around £70 too :)

I'm telling you... buy the gel cushion I linked too. I have two of them and couldn't work without it. I had the same exact scenario. I had a computer chair that flattened out from sitting in it too much... but for some reason I worked really well in that chair... so I opted to get that exact gel cushion a try. WOW.

I actually didn't like it for like the first week I used it, but once your ass gets used to it... you won't want to sit on anything else. I can sit for DAYS on this thing... it's remarkable. TOP 5 best purchase I've ever made in my life... and im not kidding.

I hurt my lower back in my easrly 20's...I bought an executive chair last spring but soon returned it because it actually made my back worse.

Now I just use a standard classroom chair I bought for 40 bucks. Swivel and adjustable height - keeps me sitting upright...

Sounds crazy, but ergonomically, it's superior to my $800 chair I originally bought...and a fraction of the cost. When your back starts getting tight or sore, it's not time to buy a new chair, it's time to get up and move around, stretch and rest and come back refreshed.

p.s-Don't waste your money on an executive chair for comfort - buy one when your an executive and it's fashionable to do so. ;)

Cheers :)

The Standard is the Aeron Chair because of the material they use for the seat and back -- but they are pricey. During the DotCom Bust you could get them cheap when companies went out of business. You can find them refurbished for the same price as a knock-off.

Herman Miller's Aeron Chair FTW! I'll be picking one up on craigslist one of these days. They really are awesome.

Check the size before you buy one, there are 3 but most people are a "B".

mmmmm Aeron Chair

I have a pretty cool chair but it's not an Aeron. Also the height of the desk is important. You can have the best chair in the world but you'll still experience all kinds of pain if you are jamming your arms into your shoulders in order to reach the mouse - either that or you'll get RSI from the wrong wrist posture. It's all important.
