PHP salary in US?

Raise your price to $45 per hour bare minimum. $35 per job is seriously too low. If someone doesn't like your price they can call the geek squad. Just be sure to inform them to bring their own vaseline if the decide to use their services however.

Extra vaseline: $100
Now that's a busyness plan.

They call me up and say they have a job and set the price. I don't, though, the last job was an hour away so i requested no less than $60/hr.

Yesterday I had a reason for asking you where you lived. Today, for the life of me, I cannot remember what that reason was.
If I remember I will post back.

QFT, because this is the best assessment I've read in the thread. That having been said, this is very much an "average" range. Top developers do make considerably more, and plenty of people work for considerably less. And people often get what they pay for. Offers for PHP jobs in the Salt Lake City area push into the 6-figure range, and I can say that even publicly offering $70-$90k in this area has been insufficient to entice highly qualified applicants.Everah wrote:Most PHP developer jobs are running between $75K and $95K for seasoned PHP5 OOP and LAMP wizards where I am from. I happen to be from just north of the heart of Silicon Valley. Elsewhere the salary ranges can go as low as $35K (Gulf states, midwest, etc) but tend to hover right around $55K to $75K.
Of course none of this is relevant if you can sell yourself. I landed a very high paying PHP developer job with no college degree but a great resume. I had also not worked as a developer professionally before my current employment. I get, on average, two to three recruitment emails a week and at least one cold call a week from recruiters. Most are looking at the $85K to $95K salary range for their jobs.

I really need to move.. and I'm ready.
I currently Live in Michigan, which happens have the highest unemployment in the US. I currently do have a job, but its not so much fun. Pretty much every project I've been assigned has been pushed back because of all the daily things I have to do on top of it. I even did some work on my own time at home.
Back to the topic; Of all the quotes in this thread even Everah's post about the midwest (Which michigan is in) I am still subpar. (In terms of salary) Now me being still young (20 Years old) I didn't mind at first, especially for not going college. Which I have no plans or interest in.
So now that I'm on my way out my job. (I've been here for 9 months, and freelanced before this) I am now looking around, and willing to move. I will be re-making my resume and will most likely post it on here when I'm done so everyone can help me stand out.
I'm not sure what the point of this post is.. I'm just really having a bad day at work... again..

I can say with confidence that the PHP developer market in Silicon Valley is stupendous at the moment. I get job listings sent to me to the tune of about 15 a day. In any given week I will get two to three cold contact emails that are trying to recruit me. I actually get phone calls at least once every two weeks from recruiters and I don't even have my resume out there anymore.
The potential to make a decent salary over here is insane as it the potential to work for companies that are leading the charge into the next generation web. Of course the cost of living here would make most people puke, but that is part of the trade off.
And the weather rocks too.

I'm willing to telecommute for less than have of that; I'm really in a tight cram and like I said I'm willing to prove my competence.Everah wrote:Most PHP developer jobs are running between $75K and $95K for seasoned PHP5 OOP and LAMP wizards where I am from.
