Sitepoint and self promotion...

Haha. I just received a warning. I swear I am the Internet's biggest rebel without a cause.
Anyways, I was just given a warning for self promotion. Apparently when someone asks for a free simple CMS I am not allowed to mention my own rolled solution -- which I haven't technically "owned" for at least a year -- sourceforge owns it.
I wasn't tooting my own horn at all...I'm not looking to profit from that project in anyway or build any momentum -- I was just sharing because the OP asked for a system which mine matched almost perfectly -- according to requirements.
Yet I see many people link to commercially supported products, so I fail to see why self-promotion is disallowed...
I won't be going back there anytime soon.

Serves you right, what, self promoting yourself like that.

Haha...
What I find really retarded is that most people have signatures for their blogs, software, libraries, etc...I fail to see the difference.

Honestly or sadly...I"m not sure I would really promote it as it was really just a quick hack that turned into something more...and then attempted to turn profit and failed miserably -- so it's not really worth "promoting" or at least associating my name with it.
I just figured, if someone else would find it useful, then go at it -- the code is simple simple simple so I figured it would at leqast serve as a good starting point for someone...SitePoint staff are so uptight about everything.

Dude, throw down some linkage to their public spanking of you. I could use some tips (and if nothing else I'd love to see the code you are talking about).

No public spanking -- I received a private message. It doesn't look like the post is available anymore either cause it doesn't come up in search.
The code is nothing glamourous but I still think it makes a for a simple and effective CMS for most static sites. Because each page is essentially a template driven web page, you can then go in and customize the output or add to it using data pulled from a database or whatever.

That does sound a little rash. I'm an administrator of SitePoint so stuff like this can always be brought up with me since we're quite aware that one or two of our volunteer moderators are a bit quick to jump in and ban/warn members with little to no prior discussion

No banning -- not that it would matter I would just come back as someone else.
I was just warned that I now have one strike and apparently in Australia you have 8 strikes until your out?
Strikes, points, to a Canadian their all the same -- the only thing that matters is the goal and/or maybe an assist.

A lot of moderators get on power trips. People in positions of authority can sometimes become quite overzealous and irrational. I see this on forums but generally it's worse with police and prison guards. Those guys are the worst. They treat people badly, go home and don't think twice about it. It's quite sad really. I wish people wouldn't lose touch with their common sense:(

Admittedly I push boundries. It's what I've always done. I constantly test people's temperament. I respect those who always stay calm and cool and typically ignore those who act irrational...
I don't do well in customer relations.
I never understood the whole ban thing from a Internet site though -- forum, etc. I mean, if it's open to the public, it's really easy to just come back as someone else, behind a proxy to disguise your IP and bam -- I'm back in business.
I was surprised by Sitepoint, being a commercial enterprise and acting that way. Unlike this site, they do have something to loose, I don't visit, I don't buy that guys books, click ads, etc. The codeproject has this figured out (ironically another aussie) not once have I ever received criticism or anything for anything I've done -- except by other members of course.

Banning is not really intended to eradicate you from a forum, it's mostly there to make it very clear that whatever you've been banned for will not be tolerated.
On a side note, sitepoint will not issue IP bans since they are a bad idea with repercussions.
