DevNetwork Chess Tournament

Post by seodevhead »

The DevNetwork Chess Tournament
Sponsored By Yahoo! Chess

Here ye, Here ye... this thread is to see if ye all want to participate in a chess match of epic proportion.

THE PLAN:
Any DevNetwork Member who wishes to do battle on the game board (Yahoo! Games' Free Chess) should opt-in to the tournament using this thread (simply say something like, "+1", etc).

Upon finalizing our list of tournament contestants... pairings will be assigned by your's truly.

TOURNAMENT STYLE: SINGLE ELIMINATION
In other words... you lose to one opponent... it's back to the PHP soup lines for you!

Each DevNet member will play 3 games with their opponent... and whoever wins 2 out of 3 games will go on to battle with other DevNet Chess Successors in bracket-like form... until an ultimate DevNet Chess Champion of the Ages is crowned.

THE TITLE:
DevNetwork's Chess Champion of the Ages 2008

WHO WILL PLAY WHO?
For the first match-ups... simply pick anyone who is available at anytime you are... it really doesn't matter who you play at first... just as long as you can get on at the same time and play... the loser goes home and the winner advances.

My dad's really good at chess (plays for our county) but it never rubbed off on me. I'm hopeless  It's interesting though since I game of chess involves much the same problem solving as programming does.

Since we're all (most anyway) equally hopeless it should be a good tournament

I'd need to know what dates/times I'm required to be free on since I've got lots of parties lined up in most of my weekend time (for a change :P) and obviously being in Australia I think I'm usually at work while my fellow Brits and Americans are outside of work. If it fits in with my schedule easily enough I'll give it a go though yep.

Hey Chris... just tell me anytime you're available and I'll play you first in the tourney. Since I work from home, I can be ready to take you on at moment's notice. I will warn you though... I play one mean Rook Offensive. (just kidding... not even sure if that's a real term)

Login to your Yahoo user account and go to:
http://games.yahoo.com/games/login2?page=ch&ss=1

There you simply click play... find a room, create a table, and have your opponent join you in that room/table.
