Carbonite... anyone use?

Hey guys... I recently had a hard drive failure, and even though I had everything backed up.. when it's important data on the line.. you still shiver a bit knowing one of your redundancies is gone. I've been thinking of ways for added (and remote) backup.

Has anyone tried an online backup solution like Carbonite (http://www.carbonite.com/)? The only thing I would worry about is someone stealing or peeking at my files. They say they use the same encryption that banks do.. but still.. what do you think? Would you use it? Have you used it?

I haven't used Carbonite but I've read about it. If your concern is them looking at your stuff, I wouldn't fret. The moment they look at someones files and it surfaces that they did, their whole existence and reputation as a company is on the jeopardy.

I think your being paranoid.

A company like that is focused on recovering your data and moving on to the next project -- not stealing your data. If it'a rogue employee who steals it...well there is little you can do about that.

How about encrypting it yourself before you upload it. That way even if they do snoop around they won't be able to see anything.

I'd have thought the chance of them picking your data from the hundreds of terabytes they must store are pretty slim anyway.
