Have you ever heard of a HD making a computer slow?

Post by tecktalkcm0391 »

Ok... I have a external 200 GB hard drive... it's been working fine, but all of a sudden if I plug it in to the computer. the computer runs extremely slow, disconnect it and the computer's back to the regular speed....

Also, it doesn't show up in my computer, but it's kinda hard to get to my computer anyways, because its running sooo slow.

Any ideas why?

Sounds like either:

a) The cable is not correctly connected to the drive
b) The jumper pins are in conflict with another drive
c) The filesystem is corrupt and cannot be mounted

Try using Linux (because it won't try to auto-mount the disk) then do a fsck without mounting it.
