Open License, maybe CC???

Post by alex.barylski »

I've been developing a product for quite some time now...I'm very close to having something usable.

Originally I thought about offering it as a hosted service. I am now constantly finding new competitors...it's a saturated market with over 100 competitors offering similar services.

I entered this venture alone...and really have no interest in marketing, advertising or sales. Although I plan on profiting from the project as I quit my job 9 months ago to persue the idea of being my own boss. 8O

Because of the competition I am strongly considering releasing it as open source...but I need to profit from it. Whether from services, support contracts, customization, etc.

What I need is a open source license which prohibits rebranding/removal of copyright notices.

I have asked this question in one form or another several times on various forums and the general consensus is that L(GPL) and BSD do not protect you from this. Does anyone know of an open source license which would protect my logo and copyright notice which are displayed on each page???

Cheers :)

No, you need some sort of logoware/badgeware license. I recall astions and hawkenterprises discussing this as a reasonable licensing scheme. Perhaps look at hawkenterprises licenses:
