It's a lot more like a PPC Mac actually.

I love the Grand Theft Auto series and I really, really want to play GTA4.. unfortunately, I do not have a PS3 (and, relatively fortunately, I don't have a 360).
But I see a PS3 as a possibility in my future within the next year or two. GTA4, MGS4, DMC4, and FFXIII.. yep, gonna need a PS3 one of these days.

The PS3 version of GTA IV runs at a lower resolution, doesn't have the downloadable content updates (extra missions and stuff that Rockstar are making later) and doesn't have Achievements (points awarded for doing stuff in the game).. Seriously, you'd be doing yourself no favours buying a PS3 for it.
Plus the PS3 is about twice as expensive as a 360 at the moment..

Yikes!
Hmm.. other than that, I'd still rather have a PS3 than a 360 due to the quality selection in the rest of the gaming libraries.

Forgot to mention that there's no RROD on a PS3 and you don't have to pay a monthly fee to play online and the downloadable content will eventually come to the PS3, it's inevitable (from NanoGeekTech). I have a PS3 40gb and GTA IV graphics don't look "awesome", but I've seen the PS3 vs 360 comparison's and the difference isn't enough to make me buy a 360.
I say if you have a 360, buy the 360 version, if you have a PS3, buy that one, it really doesn't matter. I chose a PS3 because I'm a Sony fan. I might buy a 360 too if they release a game I have to have that's exclusive for it. So far nothing has been that compelling and with blue-ray winning the format war and PS3 sales of GTA IV out pacing 360 sales, Take Two would be stupid to continue to hold off pay-to-play content for the PS3.
Just my opinion =)

Well the PS3 40GB only cost me $399 and I got a free controller ($50), and Target.com is selling the XBox 360 20GB for $349 so I don't really think you can say the PS3 is that overpriced anymore. You factor in the cost of the XBox Live service on the month-to-month and you've already paid over the cost of the PS3 in just 6 months.
Plus, Greenberg even said, “Yeah but you’re creating your friends list, messaging…. instant messaging, you get a good 80% of the Live experience for free…we feel our multiplayer offering is good value at 50 buck a year.”, which is great, I just don't care about the friends list or messaging, so for me, it's like giving me a tub of butter with my BBQ ribs, really, not interested, thanks though.
I'm sure there are lots of benefits of XBox Live, but I just don't want another monthly bill. I'm not a PS3 zealot, like I said, to each their own, I just had a PS2 so the PS3 was the natural next step for me.
BUT, my only zealous comment would be that if M$ is raking in the money from the Live service, you think they could put some of that money into R&D to fix the stupid RROD issues. My PS3 has an update every few weeks / months to fix various bugs with games and individual game updates as well (but don't think that it's bug free, there are numerous issues I've had with it, just none as severe as the RROD - watch though, karma, tonight I'll go to fire up GTA IV and it'll perma-freeze on me)
Oh, and I'm sure I'll rain down hell with this comment, but I really don't care for Halo.

The fact is, that Sony isn't offering a service at all. Each game has to run it's own servers, keep its own friends list etc.
PS3 game developers currently bear the cost of online play as they provide the servers for each indivdual game and so it is ultimately possible that they could either not include online play or pass the cost on to the consumer, via the price of the game.
Whereas MS are actually providing the servers for the game developers.
You pay for a service that is worth every penny with Live. The Sony Network is free because they don't actually have a network.
It costs me £2.25 per month for live, I just have one less beer over the month and the subscription is paid for

That might be a benefit. Yes it's spread out but a game company is probably more interested in the quality of it's game play than some third party like MS. And I'm positive MS is charging the game companies for the "privilege" of running the game on their servers.
As for the friends list, my friends list is part of the PS3 system, so they are all displayed in the same place, my messaging is all done from the PS3 dashboard. When I'm in a game and a friend connects, I get a notice in the upper right saying they're online and if the game has multiplayer, I can get an invite if I'm playing the game they're also in (i.e. Burnout Paradise, I get a little popup saying X has invited me to join their game).
Perhaps I'm just being dense, or perhaps I'm an alcoholic, but I'd give up eating a meal before I'd give up a beer
P.S. as an "end user", I haven't noticed anything on the PS3 that makes me feel like it's not seamlessly integrated with the games. But then again, I haven't had any experience with Live

I'm not on Live. I'm not giving up even one beer regardless of how good it is.

The PS3/360 debate is silly. They're game systems, buy whichever one you want.
We went through this with the SNES and the Genesis. Remember BLAST Processing?
Just enjoy the games.
I personally own a 360 and a Wii (even though the Wii is collecting dust) but I see the benefits of the PS3. Even without games its like the cheapest Blu-Ray player on the market, and is supposedly the only upgradeable one that will always be up to date.
So each one has its positives but at the end of the day; just get whichever one you dig, mannnn. Didn't matter with SNES/Genesis and it doesn't matter now.
GTA 4 is off the chain, though. Check this out:
