Messageboard was performing well - now not so well!

Post by redsuperted »

I started a message board 9 months ago. It took a while to take off and was doing great with loads of posts and new members each day...then about 3 weeks ago, all the users dropped off... new users and new registrations fell away and people aren't posting... how/why would this happen commonly and how to I re-improve performance?!

Thanks!

Most forums need some sort of hook to get you to join and post; you need to offer something that all/most other forums don't offer. Else you can always advertise, too.

What happened "about 3 weeks ago" ???

Also by "performance" I assume you mean in the business sense, not that the server has slowed for an unknown reason...

With the inherent inertia of crowds, I would suspect an earlier "event" (if any at all). Maybe the community got "bored", for closed groups of people with set topics of conversation, this effect comes sooner or later (dunno if there's a scientific name for it, I call it "low tide", having experienced it several times with different communities, both online and offline)
