Music

Post by lafever »

I'm looking for some music that is relative to music like the Lord of the Rings soundtrack. For some reason, Enya's music on it is very inspiring and relaxing and I downloaded some other albums but none compare and I'm real picky with it since I'm into Rock mainly.

When you say 'downloaded' I'm going to assume you mean legally from iTunes or something. Otherwise I'd have to lock this. Do NOT start talking about where to pirate things from.

Band recommendations are fine though. If you like LOTR style epic classical try some Hans Zimmer. He did the Gladiator soundtrack.

The Stargate film score is one of my favorites (film score for the original movie, not the political-agenda laden zombie-box medium).

Hans Zimmer's music is awesome yes...

Some of my favorite individual energy tracks...
Crystal Method - Keep Hope Alive
Fat Boy Slim - Right Here, Right Now
Rob Dougan - Clubbed to Death
Dragonball Z - The Dragon Theme

I'm also in to symphonic metal (though there it's difficult for me to discover much of it)...
Dimmu Borgir - Death Cult Armageddon - Progenies of the Great Apocalypse
Dimmu Borgir - In Sorte Diaboli - The Serpentine Offering

A great almost all symphonic metal/rock CD: Within Temptation - The Heart of Everything

Try Loreena Mckennitt for a calm folkey experience I find similar to Enya. Or of course you can try the bruteforce approach: http://www.last.fm/music/Enya/+similar

Now if you want "epic", and are into rock, there's a whole field of epic metal bands for you to explore - for starters Rhapsody with folk/symphony motives and fantasy themes (try the Tales From the Emerald Sword Saga collection for a best preview), or Turisas ("Battle Metal") for a "harder" revisit of the same.

last.fm has legally free downloads and previews of songs, so it's a good place for try-before-you-buy.

Danny Elfman is another composer you might want to have a look at. He's written a load of good soundtracks. :)
