Another cracking gadget..
I've just set up my latest groovy gadget ... a Pinnacle PCTV USB DVB-T tuner ... so now I get about 50 channels of digital TV on my laptop wherever I go! Although not really because you need good reception to get any so I'm really tethered to my house's aerial. It's still really good though because I can watch the BBC News Channel when I'm working now.

Yeh, I've recently bought a twin tuner DVB stick which works perfectly on ubuntu
Amazing how simple it is. 
I rolled my own scheduler in TCL for recordings and such. There's some good resources over at linuxTV that may help you in your quest.
Although, not much if you're using windows (shame on you if you are
