I have heard from multiple sources that Paris and Italty are best to visit in the spring and fall...apparently their sewage system is above ground or something and the heat makes the air smell like a massive toilet.

I have generally had the nicest times visiting Northern Europe in the summer and Southern Europe in the winter -- not that I have ever had a bad time visiting Europe. ;)

Most places in Europe are probably best visited during the summer. For northern areas any time between Mid June and Early September *should* get some good weather and have plenty going on. That's the peak holiday season. For southern areas you can go anywhere from say March through to October and I'd probably avoid July/August in more southern places like Greece/Cyprus since they get pretty hot for us Brits although people from other climates may find it bearable.

Paris should be pretty flexible with timing I'd say. Maybe July?

The old expression is "Paris in the Spring!"

I'd avoid August. That's the month that most Europeans and virtually ALL Germans take their "holidays" and the tourist places are crowded and season rates are the highest.

Yeah, I read this too .... in a history book about Europe in the year 1600!

Serious, Paris is not too hot and doesn't smell (besides Croissants and Coffee in the morning) in the summer. Spring can be nice, but sometimes rainy and bit coldish still. Summer is generally a bit warmer and nicer weather.

A city which might smell is Napels (Italy), were the maffia rules the garbage collection, and the government isn't able to find a solution for the garbage collection. The garbage piles up on the streets sometimes.

There are probably many weather sites on which you can see exact averages of temp and rain in different cities. Might check them out.

I heard the best time is to go for 2 weeks, 1 week before a release deadline

June is probably your best bet. Depends if you want cheap flights though :)
