iPhone tomorrow, few questions!

Tomorrow i will be going to pick up a nice shiny new iPhone as a bonus from work, i have a few questions regarding the iPhone that maybe some of you guys know, my boss currently has one so i know 99% about the iPhone as i have had to setup lots of stuff for him...

1) Can it multi-task, example, can i listen to music whilst browing the web, writing texts etc, this is an absolute must to be honest.

2) How fast is the edge network as i will not always have access to a wi-fi network (on the bus etc)

3) Im planning on jailbreaking the phone immediately, will this have any adverse effects? software lockout etc, i [plan on statying on O2 (UK customer) but want the option of installing 3rd party app's.

4) Are there any good app's that you have used?

Cheers, Mal

Why are you not a fan of 3G out of interest?

Same reason he uses 56K dial up and drives a Reliant Robin I guess.

Of course, it doesn't just stop being a phone when you have music playing.

Its usable, bt not fast by any means. With 3G, i get about 3.5mbps.

Use iLiberty, easy as clicking a button. No adverse effects, just restore the iPhone to stock with iTunes if you feel the need.

Loads, when you jailbreak, you will then have an installer on your phone where you can browse and install apps.

Seriously though, i'd wait another 10 days to see what the new iPhone has in store. 10 days ain't long, i've been waiting a year!!

Found a link on Digg.com the other day implying that it may have GPS navigation built in. That feature is enough to get me to buy one, provided I can use it off the ATT network.

Likewise. Although, now it's nearly out I'm considering buying an HTC Diamond instead. £430 for a mobile phone though...

erm no, battery consumption is ridiculous, i will be using my iPhone constantly as either a replacement for my usual iPod which i probably listen to for 4 / 5 hours a day anyway, plus as a phone obviously and heavy internet usage (w/ auto-connect for emails), i expect to be having to charge it once a day, not more.

Besides 3G is way overrated, i've had lots of them, damn i had one the first 3G phone in the UK over 4 years ago, they all have features i simply dont use.

plus i can always upgrade (usually for free) if i want.

Does anyone know if you can connect to pop accounts on a server to send/receive email? Our office does not use web mail, only pop accounts through outlook... anyone know if this is doable with iPhone/2?

thats not what im getting at, my iphone will be getting used heavily, i dont really see the need in my case having 3G as (a) video calling doesnt interest me and (b) if i need high speed internet i have wi-fi broadband at work and home which are the main places i will be accessing the internet, EDGE is fine for other times as believe it or not theres probably only 2/ 3 web-sites on the whole internet i visit regularly, im more interested in getting my business emails on the move.

Im talking more about when im on buses to / from work, in town etc, as ive already said i cant live without my iPod and never leave the house without it.

In my opinion, 3G will simply drain my iPhone too quickly, most phones have the ability to turn off 3G functions which IS needed, however ive read many a forum / blog post where it is rumoured this wont be an option in iPhone.

and i simply dont need GPS.

3G is obviously great for high speed internet, however in my case i feel i would be best off without it.
