What's wrong with you people?
Come on, for God's sake!
I am posting on this forum just for a couple of days but I have already noticed something which bugs me a lot. Do not misunderstand me! I do not wish to judge over the community, I just don't get it.
If somebody comes here to ask or help, the least is that that person reads the admins and moderators sticky topics on how to post and ask.
A lot of you guys do not take the effort to give us enough information on the the problem or code tag the code you post. Or if you do 90% of the times you do not put the "=php" or "=sql" or whatever part after the code word which disables the highlighting.
So for those of you, who did not use those so far, please use code tags and detail your problem!
That's it... sorry

Re: What's wrong with you people?
When I first started posting here we had to use something like [ code = php ] though now it's simply [ php ] (without the spaces, or maybe it was only stuff like JavaScript).
The thing that irks me a lot (and I'm not a mod who has to deal with this) is the large influx of noobs who don't read the forum descriptions! It's annoying to go to the general forum which is not allowed to have code threads swamped with a dozen new threads that are all questions about code. Of course half of those posts are made by people who just want an answer, they don't care about learning the language for any reason. This influx also includes recruiters posting job threads.
I think the last thing I could rant about myself are the exceptionally useful thread titles....
"heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp!"
"this does not work!"
"please look at this"
"look at this or I will eat your head"

I esp enjoyed the last title...
I "love" such arrogant people who think that the only purpose of our existance is to help them out of XXXX.
Muhahaha

Welcom vargadanis.
I certainly understand your sentiment. We try to gently encourage our members to post politely. All of the things you mention are important. However there are many members of many ages and from many countries -- so we try to cut everyone a little more slack than you average programming forum and keep the flames to a minimum. So keep gently encouraging ...

I hate this one:
"PLZ I NEED TO GET THIS FIXED REALLY FAST"
"My problems are way more important than other people" is what that says to me. I don't even SEE those topics any more.

Re: What's wrong with you people?
I echo arborint's comments. And welcome to the forum and the frustrations, vargadanis. I've noticed your very helpful responses to quite a few posts and commend you on your contributions. (I'm saying this as just a forum member, I'm not a moderator or anything.)
I guess I've gotten more philosophical as I've grown older. Or just mellower. The reality is that we can't force people to read all the rules without making the forum so clumsy that nobody would want to use it. Indeed, I confess that I've never read all the material that's there. As arborint said, we often try to encourage newcomers to read the rules, and occasionally rap the knuckles of someone who just is over the top, but I'm reminded of the old philosophy that "I can't change anyone else's behavior...but I CAN change my reactions to it." The practice I've adopted is pretty much: try to help anyone with a legitimate problem, even if it's deficient in information or unclear--up to a point. But if a post is really obscure, or (as has occurred a couple of times to me, very recently) if the person just keeps coming back with more problems of the same sort, almost line by line in his script, just don't respond. I suspect that many of us have the same tendency to want to try to answer any unanswered question for which we think we have an answer. But really, that's not at all necessary. I try to remember that it's okay to just move on to the next post, and not let a dumb question get under my skin. It's not my problem!
Just some thoughts from an old (and that's a fact!) programmer.

Re: What's wrong with you people?
Thank you all fro welcoming me. It makes me feel a lot more comfortable among you.
Even though there are people who won't ever read even part of the rules there are those who do. Just an example for that:
viewtopic.php?p=464498#p464498
Fortunately I can see that there are tons of members who are not the "bad" kind which makes it a pleasure to help to other people. I like to help, that's all.
I might just not respond to all those topics you mentioned. I just don't get it... It bugs me a lot but ohh well... I might not be able to change on it.. And that's a fact, right?

This is quite right. If I do something I like doing it well. And I do like helping people.
And yes, this board worths gold.
A lot... Knowledge is power and there are lotta people who know a lot more about programming than me. This is only my own interest to get involved into such a community. But also I have asking for help without paying it back. That's all

Re: What's wrong with you people?
Yes, that is good.
Need less furry cheap battles/toy robots in Episode VI/Episode III and more ships crashing in to ships. ...and for goodness sakes if you can't pull off a decent romance don't even bother to do it in the first place.
(that applies to all genres!)
