oh it makes perfect sense when you think about it. It's all about the cost/benefit analysis. Sesame Snaps are only 50 cents, and they never disappoint! A clear winner.

I think I've decided to go with the iPod Touch. It's cheaper and I don't really need a phone.

I must be missing something...

8 GB iPhone 3G: $199
8 GB iPod Touch: $299

...so you want to pay $100 to lose the phone and camera?

:dubious:

In order to get that price for the iPhone you need to agree to an AT&T plan for 2 years. Is that correct?

the way it used to work (not sure if it still does) is that you buy the phone at the apple store and it comes with "activation" instructions for AT&T inside the box. I bought mine like that and jailbroke it, and I use it on a PAYG carrier - no contract at all. Unless they changed the method, it should still work the same way!

Jailbreaking a phone is really easy now (1 click), but I don't know what the status of breaking the 3g's 2.0 firmware is. It might take little bit.

The price of the iPhone has always been the price of the iPhone. The service is totally different. In fact, the iPhone is the only phone that AT&T does not offer an activation commission for, so when you activate it on their system no one gets "credit" for it.

i got myself a iPhone 8gb, jailbroke, and its probably the best gadget ive ever owned, it is freakin' awesome the stuff you can do with it, i've even built my own custom app's already.

It is so far ahead of any other phone its not even funny, and the fact it has basically the iPod touch built in is awesome, if only flash worked on it this thing could almost replace my laptop.

Dude, there are lines around almost every Apple Store in the SF Bay Area. It is sick. Some folks have been waiting since Wednesday. Silly wabbits.

I want a PAYG one because I don't like the commitment of a contract ... but apparently the PAYG ones aren't available until about October/November. :(

Considering apples pricing policy I think its fair to say the pay as you go option won't be cheap....

Canada hates Rogers, so iPhone sales were pathetic here.
