I say let's don't not go too far enough!

But yeah.... back on topic ;-)

The key to successfully making a career out of freelancing is fostering trust. Do good work and represent that work well. I've never had to solicit work, my clients do it for me.

I'm interested in this subject too. I taught myself HTML by puttering, and I don't know PHP yet, but I have some familiarity with it because my website runs on WordPress (and I used to have a phpbb forum, which I made some modifications to), and I think I would enjoy learning it.

I'm wondering what kind of paid work that could lead to. Sorry for my naive question, but would one primarily be setting up and designing client's websites (in which case a knowledge of graphic design and CSS also seems like it would be helpful?) or wrting new software and scripts to perform specific functions for particular purposes that no existing software is able to do?

And would trying to create new, free, plugins for WordPress be a good way to learn and practice?

I'm not looking to make big money. If I could work on the occasional project and earn a few hundred dollars a month working from home I would be very happy.
