I have a client who tells me she is unable to connect to the Internet but can check her email...
Any ideas on what might be causing this?
Should I check her proxy settings? Do DSL accounts usually require a dialer? Should I reformat her HDD and re-install?
What kind of troubleshooting should I carry out. Obviously her connection is fine if she can check her emails. This is common in my area for DSL customers...
I'll probably send the DSL provider an email asking for their input as well but still what says you?
DSL -- no internet but email?

I'd start by checking the proxy settings in the web browser, and do some basic low-level network checks like ping, traceroute, dig, and so forth.

Re: DSL -- no internet but email?
I get this sort of no WWW but still connected to the internet (Thunderbird and instant messaging programs) on occasion. It's annoying as all hell and the only way to fix it appears to restart Windows XP. Do you have any clue how much it pains me to close a dozen windows in the middle of being completely on fire I'm getting so much work done and this happens? Yeah...kind of like if jQuery stopped working until you rebooted the web server.
