How much PERSONAL bandwidth do you use? (Comcast Related)

Post by JAB Creations »

I'm curious as to what people could possibly be downloading besides HD-videos that could encourage Comcast to cap bandwidth at 250GB a month. I knew there was a point that would irk them though frankly that's much higher then I expected.

In example I've had this copy of XP installed since March, about half a year. µTorrent lists my total bandwidth as 66GB downloaded and 102GB uploaded total. I have also used 2.86GB of bandwidth working on my website thus far this year. I would expect that makes up the bulk of the bandwidth used for our account with Comcast so I'm not worried.

I am however curious as to what is being downloaded that is causing this cap? Seriously, are there people out there who buy a new terabyte hard drive once a month? 8O HD video can't be the only thing sucking up that much bandwidth!

Hosting games on Xbox Live can suck up bandwidth pretty quickly, especially if everyone is talking.

Ive downloaded about 200gig in the last 2 months. 23gig of that was last night. Downloaded Gladiator in HD (after being in Rome last week) and the entire Red Dwarf series 8 series x 6 episodes

Mainly TV shows.

Some TV shows i download, watch, then delete. Some I download and save becuase they are the kind of thing you can watch over again, Friends etc

Ive downloaded a fair few HD movies, but i would say thy only account for about 10 - 15% of my total bandwidth.

I only download soenthing in HD if it is something i have been waiting to see, otherwise i just downoad a normal XVID or whatever.

Tenshi na Konamaiki (Cheeky Angel) is 50 episodes 1~22 180MB each, 23~50 230MB each, 50 episodes at 10.2GB total. That's nothing and the quality is more then acceptable at 1920x1200 regardless of ratio. I'm maybe watching around two to four episodes a day tops of anime (and no television whatsoever save for The Venture Bros) almost only while I eat.

So I take it download, watch, and immediately delete is a pretty common practice?

Onion, can you give us a general idea, figure, or even an example at the expense of it not being typical? :P
