Why do you read blogs?

Post by Ollie Saunders »

I started a thread about this before but I'm curious to see if opinions have changed over time. The last post featured a lot of people commenting on how they simply don't read blogs and find them silly, I'm interested to see if that's still the case. If you do still feel that way, why do you?

Bonus question: What aspects of your life do blogs help you with? I think for most of us it's coding but are there others too like gardening, cooking, business etc.?

I don't read blogs. Can't really see the need to do so.

I keep up to date with my interests via RSS feeds on my iGoogle page.

At work it's totally to keep up-to-date & develop my skills. Home time is relaxing time, so I voted that way.
Real programmers don't comment their code. If it was hard to write, it should be hard to understand.

I only read blogs for two reasons (in order of 'importance'):
to laugh
to learn some new (and hopefully useless) information.

For instance... I learned what leap seconds were yesterday because I someone mentioned them in a blog post.

I don't read blogs either, so I voted based on why I listen to podcasts.

Have you ever? There's a lot of good reasons, all the options on the poll for a start.

No I haven't. I suppose if I did read them it would probably be a Java/PHP/MySQL developer blog so I can learn new programming stuff. Most (popular) blogs I've seen span multiple subjects though, which doesn't interest me. If anyones got any good blogs that might match my interests, feel free to post the links.
