Lost iPhone

Post by malcolmboston »

After a night clubbing it on Saturday i woke up to find myself -1 iPhone.

Im wondering if theres anyway to find out if my phone is being used? Needless to say its unlocked and jailbroke and the 2G version.

On it i have access to my work POP3 emails, MSN messenger, google mail, a special CMS for a few of my eCommerce sites that requires authentication etc.

Now when i ring my phone its turned off this could be because of either (a) my iPhone was dead i charged it for 10 minutes whilst i was in the shower and was using it quite a bit during the night = dead battery lying in a ditch somewhere, or (b) Someones found it and replaced the sim card.

Is there any easy way of knowing if it is in use or not and more importantly, anyway of finding the damn thing i can check access logs in my CMS to find out of the iPhone has attempted connection (done by clicking on an icon on the desktop) but what would be really awesome is someway reverse engineer the IMEI number to find out the current sim card number in it so i can pay the person a nice phone call :).

If someone can help me, i'd be forever in your debt and a nice token of money will be coming your way.

Thanks, Mal

my thinking is that the iPhone is practically a mini-laptop with some of the stuff it can do, there must be some way of finding out if it is still in use, i have the original box at home and iTunes at work which i would assume would hold my serial number for the phone. :banghead:

I was pricing up a replacement yesterday and CEX are selling the 2g version, 2nd hand for :gasp: £365

If you have the IMEI (sp?) number you should be able to get it blocked through your operator.

Im not overly concerned about it getting blocked to be honest, i know if it is currently in use then its not with my phone number which would be really bad as obviously all my clients use that number.

And besides unless its in iTunes somewhere i do not know my IMEI number, so i take it theres no way of finding out?

Cheers, Mal

Your network provider will know your IMEI number, ring them, tell them who you are, and they'll block it for you I think. Don't think you'll be getting it back though.

i take it all back, all i had to do is tell them my number they confirmed my phone has not been used since my last phone call on Saturday night and have now blocked the phone.

They've also sent me out a new PAYG sim card with the number ive been using for the last 2 years+ so i will not have to ring clients and friends to change my number over, really impressed with their customer service!
