Do you Tweet on Twitter.com?
We have a Twitter thread of sorts viewtopic.php?f=36&t=90781 but it's buried over in Enterprise. If you use Twitter.com sling your name in here so we can build up a little group of PHPDNers.

I tend to use it a lot for internet marketing stuff (great marketing tool), so I won't add my name onto the list.
Set Search Time - A google chrome extension. When you search only results from the past year (or set time period) are displayed. Helps tremendously when using new technologies to avoid outdated results.

I'm not a tweeter... maybe someday...
Re: Do you Tweet on Twitter.com?
I never even visited that site, it's seemed so incredibly useless to me
I don't blog, and I certainly don't realtime-24/7-mini-blog to keep the world informed whether I'm working, sleeping, or taking a sh*t. But apparently there are other uses to Twitter..? Can someone explain?

It can be used to track stuff geographically. So, for example, the swine flu thing is pretty big on Twitter right now. So if everyone who lives in a town that gets struck down posts a message with #swineflu in it, then someone could create a mash-up of a Google Map and those messages. Effectively tracking the outbreak faster than the news. This same technique was used to track where it was snowing in the UK a few months ago.Apollo wrote:But apparently there are other uses to Twitter..? Can someone explain?

I blot because it gives me a place to vent politically.
But I'm not a twit.
Edit: apparently I am a twit. That should be "I blog because..."

Re: Do you Tweet on Twitter.com?
Twitter has almost become a substitute for an RSS reader for me. Following some high-profile developers they always tweet links to other sites that they've found something interesting on. A lot of sites are using it to put out a tweet when a new news story/article appears.
Twitter was amazing for us during the black saturday bushfires earlier this year too. 774 Melbourne + the CFA were providing near-realtime status updates and where the fire(s) were spreading and when people should be choosing to flee or defend their homes.
I used to think twitter was pointless too. I signed up for it probably 6 months before I ever actually used it. I think it became much more interesting to me when I started following some interesting people like Scot Stevenson, Josh Catone and Francisco Tolmasky (and other 280North guys). Twitter seems to have an abundance of interesting geeks worth following.
Also, I think I use it much more since downloading a native Mac twitter client and having it just running in the background while I work. It's a good way to give your mind a break when you're frustrated over some coding issue you've been working on all day. Just bring up your twitter client, scan a few tweets, read a couple of articles and then get back to coding.
You can use twitter without actually tweeting. For me it's more about reading the content that gets posted there.

What does RT mean on Twitter? I can't seem to find it looking on Google.

Re: Do you Tweet on Twitter.com?
Retweet. It means you didn't write the tweet, you're merely repeating what somebody else tweeted. Say for example, somebody posts a link to a website and you open the link, think it's cool, so you decide to tweet it too. It's courteous to "RT @original_user <actual tweet here>". Some people just put "(via @original_user)" after the tweet instead.JAB Creations wrote:What does RT mean on Twitter? I can't seem to find it looking on Google.
