I'm not entirely convinced this isn't SPAM. Am I wrong?
Real programmers don't comment their code. If it was hard to write, it should be hard to understand.

I think in order to crack something like eBay you need a huge amount of revenue behind you to market this... by the sound of it, you have none.

It's pretty unlikely you're going to get it off the ground by posting links on forums. I'm also not sure how many people find eBay (for example) by searching google for it... it's one of those household names. The most effective way to get your target audience (the everyday public) to know about this is going to be TV, Radio and Newspaper, but then that's very expensive and highly regional.

Good luck either way!

You could post questions about how to increase traffic, so cleverly disguising a link in your signature. Oh wait you already did that? hmmm.... Didn't make you an overnight millionaire? Get outta here...

If the only thing you are posting is a Hello and a link to your site then that is spam.
(and your link should - again - be removed)

I hate to be the bringer of bad news, but there aren't any really. If your site appeals to a specific niche demographic then you might get somewhere with the likes of Digg or Facebook, and if you're a talented and prolific writer you might get somewhere with a blog if it's picked up by a traditional media outlet, but aside from those you have no choice but to build your brand in the usual way - with a big advertising spend. You can't do it on the cheap. If you could then everyone would.

Hello and welcome. Sorry for the slightly rough introduction, but we (like everyone else) are inundated with spam.

If you are looking for some specifics about promoting your site, I think you can get some helpful advice here. Probably the best thing would be to let us know what you have done so far. Then people can comment on that and us it a starting point for giving advice.

Well I think before any marketing plan you have to identify what your product is exactly, what value it is supposed to provide, how it is providing that value, who you are trying to provide that value to. Maybe we could start by discussing what sorts of pains your product / service is supposed to remedy. Once we identify that I think we'd be much more inclined to help
