Block ExpertsExchange from Google results?

I absolutely can't stand ExpertsExchange though that bastard child site shows up way too often when I do searches. I've been using Google's [insert the name of whatever it's called here] for a couple of months and adjust the results such as clicking on X to remove lame results though I'm wondering if there is a way to blacklist the site from showing up in all my searches in general?

Experts exchange is a rather good site. I have a membership, but i have recently found that if you do get a search result come up in google, click the cached version and scroll right to the bottom, you are able to view the content without a membership.
Still, i'd definately suggest getting a membership, it is a really handy site.

I've done that before, it's part of how they are able to get good rankings which annoys the hell out of me since they want to force everyone to pay for something they can get for free. Then again since you're a member would you say people are paying more to learn or to simply get answers?
That's the thing, I think DevNetwork owns ExpertsExchange any day of the week. We've got people with insane knowledge and wisdom here (myself included for some aspects of clientside) and unlike ExpertsExchange it's open to the world to learn from our discussions. It's the opposite of their site, IRC, and mailing lists which all have cons that greatly outweigh their usefulness on a grander scale.

I am a member because i like to ask questions. And yes the answers are generally pretty good.
But since signing up to this site, and
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com i don't think i will be renewing my membership.
So the only reason you are wanting to block expertsexchange from your search results is to try and make their ranking on google go down?

I'm not interested in a vendetta, I just don't want their site constantly hounding me for money! It's one thing to keep your own application's code closed, we all have to make a living; but to enforce their own premium on snippets of code and then hound people for money just because they are always well ranked is nothing less then insulting to the spirit of programming.

fair enough, it makes sense now.
I have had a look around and found a few things to try, but none of them worked for me.
I will keep looking and keep you posted.

You can use the advanced search operators like this:
Code: Select all
devnetwork php -site:devnetwork.net
but that's probably too much trouble for every coding search...

That wouldn't really help get them out of site and out of mind. That would be like obsessing. LoL

Just keep clicking remove and eventually Google will learn to not erturn those results I've done a few times and it seems to work well.

I completely agree with you. That site drives me nuts.

If you're not above obsessing for just a few minutes, you could customize goosh (
http://goosh.org) by hardcoding the site exclusion suffix to each of your searches. Then just throw it up on your server & set it to your home page

Glad there isn't a "geek" emoticon, it would get over-used around here.

Agree with Jab. That site (or sites like those) are very annoying. Why google puts them in a high search result when you can't see the answers as a visitor is something I don't understand.

The site drives me crazy, too, but I just scroll to the bottom of the page.. not even needing to view cache.

Interesting we all hate it...EE that is.
We should deliberately search terms which return EE results and remove them from our search maybe Google will get the hint.
