They sell alcohol in 7-11 in the US? Not here in Oz. Then again, supermarkets don't have liquor in-store here neither... you have to wander next door (if they have a liquor outlet next door) and buy it separately.

Depends on the state. Utah is wierd and allows beer/wine/liquor purchase only at state owned stores. I think there are eight such stores in Salt Lake City, for instance, which is the state's largest city. When one sells a house part of the advertisement listing is the distance to the nearest liquor store. Mormons.

You okay? Fires near you or heading your way?

Josh...you should have come to Winnipeg (our drinking age is only 18). We get a lot of Americans from S.D/N.D/MI during spring break. Those that cannot afford flying to Mexico anyways.

I walked into a quickie mart in Texas once while on a business trip and I swear I saw firearms and booze for sale. :P

I'm close to the middle of the city in a pretty residential area, so although I endured the 46c heat we're pretty unlikely to be affected by the bush fires. I know people at work who've had bush fires raging just about 0.5Km from their houses though... the CFA said they were under control but I've not heard anything since.

It rained quite heavily in the early hours of the morning and the wind has dropped. Hopefully that has helped. On the same token, we had thunderstorms last night which cause big problems in such dry conditions.

You know, 32 oz US is 33.3 oz Imperial. US ounces are bigger, but the gallons (and pints) are smaller. There are 128 ounces in a US gallon. Imperial gallons have 160 ounces. A US gallon of water weighs 8 1/3 lbs. An Imperial gallon of water weighs 10 lbs. To make it more confusing and stupid, US pints are 16 oz and Imperial are 20 oz.

Asking the barman for a "568 milliliter" sounds so much better! ;)

It says on the bottle one quart - 32 fl. oz. ( 946 ml) ;-) It says on the bottle one quart - 32 fl. oz. ( 946 ml) ;-) So 946 == 568 once you cross the meridian? No wonder einstein was so wacked out over space time :D

Is drinking beer that really dangerous? I mean, I have been hearing many things about people who say that it is dangerous in our body, but then someone would say that beer or any other alcoholic beverages is good for our body, I'm confused.

Just like everything else, it's all to do with having it in moderation. I'm not too sure about beer specifically.

I know 1 standard glass of red wine in the evening is considered good for you, but that's not because of the alcohol (as far as I know), there are antioxidants in it which help to prevent heart problems and some forms of cancer.

You'd do just as well having a cup of green tea I'd say. I think it's misleading to say that drinking beer is good for you. It's certainly harmful if done too frequently or in too large doses.

Your liver as vital to your health. It keep toxins (like alcohol) out of the body, and the way it does this (in layman's terms) is to kill its own cells. Fortunately for the liver it regenerates tissue at an impressive rate. However, the likes of an alcoholic consume so much alcohol that the liver simply does not have a chance to go through it's normal process of recovery, resulting in a lot of dead (scar) tissue. It's like a race between your alcohol consumption and your liver's ability to repair itself.

Drink and enjoy drinking. But like it says on the back of the bottle, drink responsibly!

The same goes for other drugs like Caffeine and common "recreational" drugs. They kill your liver at the end of the day and done too much, your liver ain't coming back.

There is only one proper quantity of beer -- 1 British pint (568 ml). Anything less is just not enough beer. Any thing more and it is really time for another round... ;)

Your body can process a certain amount of many chemicals. Even substances (like vitamins and minerals) that are necessary for life can be toxic in high doses. The body also has the ability to filter a certain amount per hour of many chemicals such as alcohol or caffeine.

After water, the most popular beverages in the world are probably tea and beer. They are found in almost every country. Both contain a drug, but are not considered harmful for most people if used in small doses. Obviously for people with some specific medical conditions that may not be the case.

Its less of an issue about what it does to your body. I strongly object to my government being able to tell me what I can put in my own body, but at the same if a substance has been shown to cause traffic accidents, etc.. some enforcement needs to be in place. It depends on the drug and it's effects on your body. In terms of health its not that great for your liver though ;-)
