What annoys you the most when you research?

What annoys you the most when you research?

Don't get me wrong...I love to research but no matter how good I get at searching for things (and using quotes and removing terms and so forth from search engine results) the one thing that annoys me the most are unresolved issues and overly detailed explanations about insane problems but then without any explanation of how to actually implement the solution thus negating the whole point of the article! I find a lot of "oh I got it to work thx k bye" but only an exceptionally few people actually bother to post what worked, what they tried, and for goodness sakes why post any code? It's not like any one else will ever have that problem ever on and entire internet! That's why I try to post working examples when I get help here because I know I ask questions a bit differently then most...so maybe instead of getting an answer that only helps me (the equivalent of some one getting an answer on a closed/private media like an IM or IRC) I try to make sure if someone reads the archived thread that they find the answer too...otherwise I'm just hogging up space and time...and then the universe explodes because there isn't anything fresh to read in the tech news sections. :|

I needed to rant...sorry. Any way what annoys everyone else when you're building something that you need to learn something new in order to get it working?

I do I agree. Usually I try to work it out myself by searching google, trial and error as much as possible. But asking on a forum can make you realize you had the wrong aproach from start all a long. A lot of hits you get when searching leads to unresolved forum posts. :p

And it's common courtesy to post your solution in the thread you've created, but I guess people often forget that.

when i search for a free source and find someone saying its free and when i digg it i found it paid. This annoys me most... They just make search engines fool by adding 'free' keyword in meta tags and few times in content with different way.

By far the thing that annoys me most is these link farm sites like Experts Exchange or more recently FixYa. No matter what I search for I seem to find sites like these EVERYWHERE.

Also when you have a problem with something (a piece of hardware usually) and you run a search with the model number and the problem, all you get back is marketing blurbs, regardless of how specific you make the search term.

I'd like to see search engines break up content into a few basic categories. Like ... Official websites / Discussions & Blogs / Commerce / Reviews / Other

Something like that anyhow. So I do a product search and select official - boom, just pages from the manufacturer(s). Same search with reviews - information about the product. Same with Commerce - sites where I can buy it. Discussions & blogs - Peoples comments and troubleshooting.

I just dream of the day when I can do a search and not return the wrong TYPE of page.

That's an ingenious idea. You should send that one to google. Quick! Delete your post before Yahoo get's it!
