Is it just me, or does anybody else think this looks a lot like a variant of Mac OS? Microsoft trying to steal Apple's UI ideas?

Well let's see.

You have a calculator and a browser open. You using 16% of the CPU and 46% of the ram. Hmm.

I haven't tried it. Otherwise I would give it the lowest score. :P

ROFL.

The RAM doesn't go for Win7, I am running Photoshop, NuSphere PhpED, Maya and AOE 3 AD :P

If you did not understand... I was virtualizing Windows 7 on Vista. :)

To be honest, I'd say it has more of a Gnome look. Though Chrome in the shot probably contributes to that.

If Windows does borrow a lot of UI cues from OS X, that's only a good thing. In addition to looking better, I think Apple does a lot more usability testing on the interfaces of their software. If Microsoft starts mimicking the results of that testing - all the better.
Real programmers don't comment their code. If it was hard to write, it should be hard to understand.

$Windows_7 = Vista++;

$Vista = 'total crap';

Windows 7 is total utter crap. You can't change the My Document's location (only individual folders), there is still information overload, the GUI still sucks and isn't customizable for crap, it is still intensive on system resources, and it brings nothing new to users that XP doesn't already have.

Here is a screenshot with my system running everything in the world that I usually use...
http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/3108/xprocks7sucks.png

Vista used 1.8/2.0 GB on first startup, 7 used 0.9/2.0 GB on it's first startup. In the screen shot you can clearly see with XP running along with most if not everything I use on a regular basis it's barely using 1.0GB...after everything is already loaded in to memory. In all situations the useless page file is disabled.

To me, that screenshot has information overload :D

When I shutdown all applications (web browser, messengers, antivirues, firewall), then Vista will consume 0.48 GB of RAM out of my 4.00 GB. Vista is not slow at all, if you have a good PC, but Windows 7 - that is fast. Try playing GTA 4 on Linux gfx @ max :roll:

EDIT: You do not need 16 GB for virtualizing Win7... just around one gig...

Dude, memory is cheap nowadays. You get 4 GB for like 50€! Everything loads faster and works better when you got some RAM. Especially when you are running memcached, apc, xcache, eaccelerator, apache, ngingx, lighttpd, and all sorts of web dev tools at the same time. :)

Here's what my Linux install is using. Technically it's using 850MB of ram. MySQL is using 250MB of that. Opera is using 186MB. So the actual operating system is using less than 414MB.

Code: Select all

top - 16:00:07 up  1:09,  2 users,  load average: 0.06, 0.19, 0.18
Tasks: 161 total,   1 running, 156 sleeping,   0 stopped,   4 zombie
Cpu(s):  0.9%us,  0.6%sy,  0.0%ni, 98.4%id,  0.0%wa,  0.0%hi,  0.0%si,  0.0%st
Mem:   4140980k total,  1257556k used,  2883424k free,    38472k buffers
Swap:  2104472k total,        0k used,  2104472k free,   407504k cached

Given Vista's funky UI is called "Aero" and Mac's is called "Aqua" .. this does not surprise me.

Also doesn't surprise me because everything MS have ever done is a rip of someone elses work, or is someone elses work that they bought out.

Bias? Me? Nah! :P

As far as I know, build 7048 hasn't been released to the public yet. Do we have a pirate? :wink:

Seriously, I love the new Windows 7, it's the best version of Windows yet. The problem is, it's still Windows. Took me about 2 weeks to switch back to Ubuntu.
