Wow, jee, I am here for about... two months and I haven't got to see this little spot...
Well, since I think it's kind of funny: I did start my programming days 3 years ago "programming" in DOS batch files..
I still use it today on my Windows desktop. A couple of systems and that's it.
After that I moved on to Pascal, and I have to mention, I would take on something bigger, but since that's what they teach in schools ATM...
One day I decided I want to know how to make dynamic websites. I did some research and I found PHP.
And the rest is history...
[Not really.]
Today I just love to design websites, and write on my own some stuff using PHP and JavaScript.
My real name is Tom, I am 17 yrs old and I live in Israel.

Yet Another Bio
Been maybe three months since I last posted here - a bio may be useful.
First up I'm from Ireland - I doubt I'm the only Irish person present, but it often feels that way
. In my free time I'm an active fiction writer, create PHP applications (sometimes for fun, sometimes for local websites), reading noth fiction and popular science non-fiction, enjoy hiking and rarely remember what a television looks like...
I started programming back in 1994, mainly C and later Java/Perl and of course C++. In 1998 I largely focused on Perl and Web Design - migrating after 1999 to PHP. My day job is not directly related to PHP, but it's a fascinating language to work with so I persevere...
In 1999, I stumbled across a PHP Game called Solar Empire. I wasn't interested in developing at the time while finishing university, but I came back in 2000 to help out. Things trundled on for a while, I made a few submissions to SE but largely it was an inactive period in the project in terms of new code. Finally, in 2002, after moving into a new Job and finding myself with some free time, I decided to create a fork of the game. 2003 saw a small update to SE entitled Quantum Star SE. For the next 10 months or so, I made changes here and there before starting a design phase for a 100% rewrite. Largely a rewrite was necessary due to the poor design of the original game, and the generations of hacks it had built up. The rewrite (nearing release) is almost completely done using OOP where SE was entirely procedural.
Currently I have three PHP game projects in various stages (OOP providing a lot of re-use), and a custom webapp for managing a story based RP and short story repository.
Other than PHP Games, I have designed several small community sites in my local area, acted as a local PHP advisor of sorts, done some work in C++ (mainly to retain some small skill there), and have published a few short stories online. Maugrim is actually a character in these...(and is not related to Narnia as some will presume with the movie coming up
).
My day job is as a dreaded auditor with a large firm (no names). We make hell on earth for IT managers and developers, and give Financial Systems maintainers constant nightmares. I also work on more general company audits and am studying with the Irish Institute of Chartered Accountants to expand my qualifications.
I come here because the day I stop learning more is the day they put me in a coffin and nail the lid shut. My current interest in PHP topics is PHP Application Design (with or without OOP), and PHP Security since there seem to be so many dissenting views out there its nice to hear from all viewpoints.

Hidy Hi,
I've been involved in programming with all kinds of syntaxes since quite an early age involving BASIC on the old BBC Comps back in the 80's.
Since then I have learnt and used COBOL (ugh) C#, CScript, PL/SQL, Java, VB (inc. VBA, VB6, VB.net), PHP (mainly PHP as a hobby), JSP, Bash, Korn, HTML/XHTML, XML and JavaScript/VBScript.
Stumbled across these forums as my current role is uber pants and decided to look for PHP problems to solve and discussions to well.. discuss.

Hi,
Another new person with a whopping 1 year of PHP experience (and a lot of web development experience). My background is more in the project planning and requirements of applications, but I like stay quick with the keyboard (if you know what I mean).
From what I have read it looks like this place has a wealth of smart people (and a few dumb ones).

Hey everyone. My name is Charles and I am from the great state of Alabama. (Actually, alabama sucks, always too hot. always)
Back on topic I've been programming with PHP for almost two years now, which at the ripe age of 18 seems like forever.
I like to think I'm at least not retarded in the language and I do love it. It's amazing looking back and seeing how far you've come. I know the basics of c++ and will probably dive into windows programming with c++ here shortly. I actually started out trying to learn c++ and well...let's say I put aside programming and furthered my general knowledge of computers for a bit.
Then I got the internet and played a few internet games and though, hey, I want to make one of these! But then someone told me HTML wouldn't cut it :-/ Something about server side scripting so I picked up PHP. I'm still not at the level of making a game (I might be but now that I realize how long it'd take by myself I don't forsee it happening) I now mainly work on my own site, help out others with PHP problems and am working on my churchs website. Setting up a CMS of sorts for them and let me tell you what, even if the code is essentially basic it gets real involved, real quick. Heh. Did I mention I love programming?:-D

I own 1 site so far, trying to make a cms for it, and plan on making a few more. Well that's about it.
