Hey all,

I'm 17 years old, and I recently got into PHP programming after installing a phpBB board for my future Vanguard Guild. That's what got me hooked, now I'm learning PHP and working on various projects, most of which are guild website features. I'm also working on a website for my old EverQuest guild, which includes graphic design, and some PHP features like point tracking and a photo album.

I enjoy coding community forums (especially those with members who are mature and don't have to be referred to "TFM"), so I did a google search and phpdn came up. Look forward to talking with everyone in the near future.

Been lurking around here for quite a while now and never really felt the need to post.

Started programming in php about 4 years ago, havent strayed off the path other than to add in JS functionality. I work in a very small team, one other guy who does all the nice frilly/fluffy parts, not much of an artist you see so I don't have the flair to make it look good.

As my experience has grown thanks in part to searching this forum for answers, i will try to contribute to give back to the community that has provided me with a searchable Q & A.

thanks,

Barry.

I have been writing programs for computer systems since 1976 when I joined the Air Force in Computer Information Systems. I bought my first computer in 1977. It was the venerable Radio Shack TRS-80 Model I. I have been writing programs for various computers ever since in various languages from assembly to fortran to C to PHP.

I started my first software company in 1980 selling entertainment software I created for Radio Shack and Commodore computers.

In the latter part of the 1980's I created the first 6 voice stereo hardware module for the Commodore 64/128 along with the Stereo Player for SID music. I created Digiplayer for the Commodore 64 which would play Amiga IFFs, MAC sound files, PC WAV files and RAW files.

Because of my work in creating the first 6 Voice Stereo software for the C-64/128 I was contracted to create the music player module for the Quantum Link online service which eventually evolved into AOL. The module would allow room moderators/admins to send music to anyone in a chat room from the library of thousands of music files on Quantum Link.

I was a software developer on the Commodore C-65 designing the music, digital audio and text to speech software. Sadly Commodore folded before that nifty computer could be finalized.

Over the past few years I have worked on various projects varying from commercial applications to online games such as Tribes(3rd party add ons) and Unreal 2004(3rd party add ons). Way too many to mention here without completely boring everyone to death, if I haven't done so already.

I am currently disabled/retired and working on a hobby browser based game called Alien Assault Traders.

My other pet project is ADOdb Lite, a very small, fast replacement for ADOdb. The package supports most of the core abilities of ADOdb and more modules and database drivers are constantly being added.

And since I am getting older I am a cantankerous old fart. ;)

Hey... I'm Aybra.. i'm a wanna be PHP programmer.. been making a seriouse effort to become one for about.... six years now i guess. Maybe less, its been sooo very long ago now!!

I'm mostly a gamer, real life keeps me from programming, although now that i'm back into my laptop hopefully i can get back into PHP.. Mostly my job makes me do excel and VB since they refuse to let me have admin rights on the SQL server... go figure, they dont want a programmer to have admin rights.. huh..

I do allot of hacked together dull and graphic non intense stuff so far, but one day i hope to be as cool as Twiggy!!! currently i'm working on a character census program (my own) to create a trending of server populations and junk like that for the game EQ2. Also working on figureing out how to make an excel spreadsheet be my primary database with a PHP front end.. (dont ask... its not my choice.. )

I enjoy long walks on the beach.. moonlight stolls through the sea, 4am programming parties..

Nice to meet you all!!

I'm kind of new to PHP, but I've been programming since 1988. I'm strongest in C++ and Java. A long long time ago in DOS I programmed the hell out of some Turbo Pascal, but then post-high-school-party-mode kicked in and I didn't program for several years..now I'm kicking myself as I'm trying to rehabilitate my brain back into the ability. PHP seems pretty easy and not too difficult for someone experienced with C++ and Java, so I'm having a little easier time with PHP. I think the hardest part for me is switching from PHP to (X)HTML and making the output presentable. It seems like there's a certain "art" there that I haven't picked up on yet. I'm glad I found this place though. It looks like there's a bunch of intelligent programmers here.

My name is scott. 20 years old. Started trying to learn PHP when I was 18, almost 19. I learned mostly everything I know through these forums and trial and error. Like the guy a couple posts above me states.. my post count is definately not indicative of my level of knowledge.

I do PHP for fun. It's challenging and gives me something to do since I don't have any friends. Or that could be backwards, I might not have any friends because I'm always PHPing. :-D

While I have learned a lot in the past year I'm still baffled by a lot of questions (and answers) on this board.

I guess my ultimate goal with PHP is to create something to give me enough residual income to live on rather than having to work a "real" job (office, 9-5, flipping burgers or whatever).
