Soz for the hijack

Hi, I'm Dave a Senior Developer/IT Manager for a media company in Dorset in the UK.

Been using PHP for about 9 months now although I've been a programmer for about 9 years. VB, RDMS, .NET, Java, OOP, and various bits on the web ASP,HTML etc

Started out in desktop solutions for a bank, now working on web products for a media company.

I'll apologise here and now if my php is a little shonky sometimes. I'd never used it until Jan this year when the company decided to re-write their principle web sites in PHP/MySQL then the php guru left and I've have to pretty much learn by doing lol

See y'all around the forums :)

Steve from mid Michigan

Im new here but have been doing web for about 5 years or so. Still very new to PHP, but I can hold my own in all of the design apps, including 3D studio max, after effects, flash, and illustrator/photoshop.

I hold an associates of science in digital media. For a day job, I work for www.midstatelitho.net (I also did the site) which is a printing equipment dealership. I service prepress machinery called imagesetters which are used to make plates that are used in large printing press to actually lay the image on the paper. In laymans terms, an imagesetter is the step between a computer file and a large offset printing press. This means I spend much of my time training prepress designers in how to prepare a job for the press room.

I also handle color proofing in print shops. Meaning I create color profiles and output solutions so accurate samples of a pending press-job can be made for the customer. This includes generating color profiles and establishing an inline workflow step for creating these proofs. If you've heard of CIP3 or CIP4 - I've also got my hands in on that, but I'll leave the details on the extra curious.[/img]

Hi, I'm Bogdan, nice to meet you all.
I'm 23, living in Timisoara, Romania (yey some romanians trying to code...). Graduated Economics, at UVT (West University Timisoara). My section was/is called Business Informatics (hope thats the best translation). Been working with Pascal since 7th grade, through high school, had the oportunity to experience VB, Delphi, PHP, Oracle through the 4 years of my studies.
Curently doing a master at the same Univ, called SIFB, Banking-Financial Informatic Systems (hope translation is ok, again).

Worked for almost a year at a US company, Rom branch, called Corecard. I was hired as a programmer but did testing for 98% of the time, decided I can do more than that and asked for a raise and a move to more serious business :D
They offered something that I considered and still consider insignificant si I quit.

Got a job the very next monday which is much cooler at a group of 2 companies (acrux and aspire solutions) where I have the chance to code (PHP, JScript, MySql) and I hope to get into Java and Ajax by the end of the summer.

On a more personal side, I have a gf for 2years heading for 3now; love to play mmos, I'm into SF genre, currently playing eve online with a bunch of people I know in RL.

I find this comunity very cool, helpfull :P. Thanks.

Cheers, B

Welcome to the community Rudi. I think the suggestion of a newbie forum has been brought up before. The challenge is where does someone make the decision if the question is newbie or not 8O ? The regulars around here read through almost all of the forums and respond to as many posts as we are able to, to best help out the new folks around here. Many of the regulars here were at one point newbies themselves  and we went through the same growth process here. Stick around. In no time you'll be answering others' questions at the same time as yours are getting answered.

Hi, my name is Nigel.

I've been a hobby php programmer for 2 years now. I used to do a lot of general programming at work, but as time goes by I've tended to do less and less as my job has developed into project management *sign* ah for the good old days.

I caught onto php as a nice (free) way to keep up to date with some programming skills and I've really enjoyed it.

Like many other posts here - I'm more of a programmer, less of a designer so my web sites aren't that fancy to look at.

Look forward to browsing through this forum.
Cheers

Hello everyone

Post by tengue17 »

ooh.. so we introduce ourselves here. (i have more than 1 myself  ).

Hi, i'm martin, chemical engineering graduate student in japan. I start to learn php-mysql for 1 year now, trying to make a database for my lab. The aim is to provide visitors publications that we have made. Most university in my country (Indonesia) don't have SciFinder or stuff like that that allows them to download journal freely from web. So i hope the page will help them get these publication (written by us) and ease the effort of research. I hope it will also help ourself to manage things around.

But now i'm stuck, when i tried to use cookie, somehow my installation prevent me of using it. Still trying to figure it out. (almost a month now) ouch!! I might ask a lot help from you. Yoroshiku!

You will. I was just reviewing some of my earlier posts and I sound a lot like some of the newbies do now. Good to see things don't change much (or is it bad to see that?).

Anyway, welcome aboard hrvoje461.
