Hello all my name is Mike, I'm 26, and from the UK. I studied computer science at university and got into programming from there.

I am now an active web designer and I also run a web hosting business. I code using PHP mainly but also some asp js c# etc.

Just found your site from a friend who lurks here and it seems to be a very useful place.

If anyone wants quality but cheap webhosting give me a shout and I'll give you a discount :) I've posted a general offer here just now anyway.

I'm Ken, 54 years old. Did coding and hardware design at Olivetti for 10 years, and at Cisco Systems for 12 years after that. Before I got into coding I just did Hardware design (lots of places).

What got me into programming is the switch that happened back in the early 80's, when everything went from drawings (pen on paper) to CAD systems. Back then, to run a CAD system you had to learn to program.. there were no graphic monitors back then, everything was text on the screen and your imagination. I started out with RPG on an IBM 360, switched to C and shell programming on a UNIX system, then C++, then Perl (my favorite). At Cisco Systems I wrote the code that is still used company wide for sending hardware designs out to manufacturing, along with design tracking and manufacturing feedback interfaces (web mostly).

I'm retired now, but am in the process of teaching myself PHP.

So in a lot of ways I'm a newbie, but in others I'm not.

Cheers.
Ken
