Hey All,

I'm Owen.

I'm a web and interaction designer, which sounds like bollocks but it's not so much! I'm here 'cause I code PHP but could do it better, and I will.

As far as other languages go, I've dabbled in most and am much more used to app programming which makes the loopless world of the net freaky and weird :)

Hey,
I'm Scott from South Australia.

I am currently working in sales, but did some work (and study) in programming a few years back, and since I am finding my current job un-fulfilling I have decided to get back into programming again. I primarily did COBOL, but I have been working on PHP for the past couple of weeks during my spare time, to try and get my knowledge up, and either do websites on the side, or leave my current job for a dev job.

I find even just doing PHP in my spare time to be very satisfying, great language. My wife is also a programmer (mostly ASP.NET) for a large company.

Looking forward to talking to you all.

I was looking for a forum focused on Regular Expressions and this is what led me here. Surprisingly, there are very few such forums - and I mean very few. A google search of "regular expression forum" or "regex forum" results in only a small handful of real hits (out of a million+ matches). This one, and regexadvice.com (which I found to be, lets say... technically challenged with regard to its forum software). There is a private forum built into the excellent RegexBuddy program (and I'm active in there), but I do like the expressive features of a modern public forum such as this one.

I've been a programmer since the '70s (FORTRAN written on punch cards) with an engineering degree in '81. Worked with non-destructive testing robotics and data acquisition systems in the aerospace industry for 11 years (FORTRAN, C and assembler on PDP-11s and PCs)then spent 5 years writing a real-time OS in assembly language and "C"). More recently, I've been learning web programming skills; XHTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP, MySQL and apache configuration. I fell in love with regular expressions about three years ago after reading the classic "Mastering Regular Expressions - 3rd edition" by Jeffrey Friedl. I really like PHP and its use of the powerful PCRE regex flavor, so I may just stick around here. You folks seem to be pretty well versed and civilized, with a pretty good S/N ratio.

Hi Everybody! :D

I came here with a question and found this forum to have a lot of clever knowledgable people mixed with desperate beginners. I like to help out where I can.

I live on a sailboat and often access the internet with a low power consumption internet tablet (Nokia N800). I'm forced to tap tap tap to type with a stylus so sometimes I end up with double letters or typos. Because of my nomadic lifestyle I will dissappear for months if not years at a time.

I do odd web jobs for people in the countries I visit, but my backround is in radio engineering (cell phones, wireless data, etc.) Internet technology is much more portable, no lab equipment needed, so I've been retraining myself. I'm good at php, javascript and html. I've been programing since I was 12 starting with a TI-99/4A http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_Instruments_TI-99/4A, haha. No punch cards, but lots of tape drives!

Just thought I should say HI!

Hello fellow developers,

I'm a web developer based in the UK, currently studying at a North East University Web Development and Management, really the degree hasn't taught me anything I don't already know from this hobby I've been doing since I was 10, but, like anyone else, I'm getting a degree under my belt, and my degree has put me right where I want to be today and that is being involved with PHP. Before my degree I knew what it was, what it could do, but never had the energy or believed I could write it myself, that was until my first assignment was to create a PHP application for a zoo to manage animals, species, etc..

So, that's a little about how I started being involved with PHP. My real history lies as a young child at the age of 10 wanting to make a website about my magic tricks. From that day forward I've been learning new ways to code and design.

So here I am, Jamie, from the UK, 20 years old.

I recently learned PHP. I'm not as savy in PHP as I am in .NET
but I want to learn PHP because .NET hosting is very expensive.
