I'm new here, I thought I'd finally join a PHP forum!

I've been doing PHP for a little over a year now, and I initially started with PC's in general back when I was in grade 7, or when I was 10 to 12 years old.

Since day one, I've always wanted to make things, not use things, so here I am! Like a lot of other people, I started out with HTML, but soon found it too "dumb" to do what I wanted it to do. I took a break from web stuff altogether for a year and did mostly Java applications. Then, just over one year ago, a friend convinced me to try PHP. It was a bit of a switch from Java, eg: all the dollar signs for variable names, automatic variable type detection. but all in all I like it and want to do big things in PHP.

One of my visions is a CMS, focusing on enhanced theme's and better user friendlyness.

I hope I can contribute around here, I dont know why I havent joined a PHP board sooner, it probably would have helped on those brain freeze days where my error was a misplaced bracket or something :P but whatever, better late then never I say!

Hello All,

My name is Niall Macpherson. I'm 30 and live with my GF in a small town close to Geneva (Switzerland).
I started programming back in the 80's with BASIC on my Dad's office computer. Since that I've done Pascal in school.
I used to be a air traffic control cadet, but then decided to take up studies again and finished a degree in Management 3 years ago. During my studies I created a few sites in simple HTML (learning Photoshop and Illustrator at the same time).
I since then joined a medium sized Web Agency as a Project Manager and Account Manager (I manage this account for example).
In my spare time I thought I would try to understand our developers and have now been coding PHP for 2 years. My company is 100% Microsoft.

I don't mix my hobby (coding, programming) with my work (Project management). I also like photography and even made a bit of pocket money on Istockphoto

4 years ago I shaved my head to dress up as Dr Evil... there goes a nick

OK... well I've been using this forum for a while, however, I hardly ever post because: a) I find my answer by searching the messages or b) any input I could give has already been given 2 or 3 times in the message. I guess I need to be quicker on the draw...

Anyway, work in radio in the Denver, Colorado area... a radio geek that programs PHP... deadly combination

Greetings all...

I am an Office Admin for the local City Government. I have to consider myself a hobbyist programmer since I have never gotten a college degree, I went Marine Corps instead of college, making up for that now... Ugh! I have 8-10 years experience with VB(A) developing Access Data-Apps for fun and profit. I of course am the local Access Guru so I spend most of my "free" time creating access databases for the City. I am currently trying WITH ALL MY STRENGTH! to convert from Access/VBA to MySQL/PHP and create Web-Apps.

Postnuke, the CMS, is what drew me into web-app design. I have been learning PHP by attempting to design modules for postnuke. As of this date, I have figured out the Table Creation / Array Design for my module, but am still designing (on paper) the functions side of the module. My goal is to create a Web-App version of a database application I made for the City Engineers to track and maintain their projects. Ugh! This is hard...

My goal is to figure out the module design aspect of Postnuke, the language of PHP, create some Modules that replicate databases I have and then go before management and suggest converting our nearly non-existent IntraNet to a Postnuke setup utilizing my modules. This would save the city money, put my name on the 'lists', and hopefully move me into something else, anything other than Office Administration... ugh! I wanna program...

I have a website: http://www.ninjasquirrels.com
Just for fun and practice right now... Nothing practical up there as of this writing, but I am designing and testing my module stuff there as well as unloading about the secret lives of squirrels...

Well, I believe that covers it. Glad to be a part of the group. Look forward to picking up PHP as fast as is possible. Thanks for all the fish and remember to Fight Evil and Never Smoke...

Little late, but I'll give it a go.

Steve here. Call me Steve, Steven, who cares. I do Flash ActionScript in MX(6), I would like to upgrade to MX2004, but no mula. ;) I like PHP thus far, I have to get used to adding a ; to the end of the lines.

PHP is also pretty similar to the actionscript I do in Flash, so it's pretty easy to get the syntax down. Bear with me... :D

Hey All

Well after reading someof the other intro's I feel out of place. I am a computer hardware guy with basically no programming knowledge. I decided it was time to learn something new so I am going to learn how to develop web pages using PHP and MySQL.

Interesting group of people!
I'm Dave, a geologist, 48 years of being a beginner!
I did a little bit in BASIC back in the '80s with my then father-in-law's Atari 800. I discovered the Mac in '85, and was building a sample handling and tracking database for a major government project using a proprietary program called 4th Dimension in the '90s. Looking back on it now, I can see what a monster it was.
I use OSX at home, and occasionally dabble in linux. I've toyed with C++, and the Cocoa environment with objective C -- I like it, but I think its future is limited. I've put together some web sites around polemic projects of mine, but nothing very professional looking.
I'm now attempting to assemble and possibly market a more generalized, auditable handling and tracking system for scientific samples, using PHP, MySQL, (x)HTML, and Javascript. I'm trying to learn all of them at once. I'm also writing a science fiction e-novel, that will make extensive use of Javascript.
I'm curious about Python, and may go back to Obj-C or C++ for some experiments in evolution and orbital mechanics that are bothering me.
I do love the Mac, but I think the future is Linux.

Oh, and I like rocks, too. I'm investigating a unique quarrying opportunity. And I don't play guitar, but I do sing karaoke. And I spend a lot of time exploring the desert on foot.

I ain't never bored!

Hi all!

I'm Corey. I have been programming in PHP for about a year now. Most of my background is in VB, ASP, C, and Java.

Currently I am part owner of a business, Savance http://www.savance.com. We concentrate on "business automation." What we actually do is design software to attept to save bussinesses time and money. Our flagship product is OrderSavant, http://www.ordersavant.com, and our other main product is EIOBoard, http://www.eioboard.com.

I think that's enough about me...

Wow! So many people all doing different things... very cool!

I figure it is better late than never, eh?

My name is Joe and I'm from Southeast Alaska. I'm 15 years old and there is a link to my picture somewhere on my site :P I've been coding PHP for about 8 months as a personal use. I had timhortons as a mentor and he's tought me much of the coding that I know.

You can check out the site I've done over at http://www.disturbedfrenzy.com/. I tried to tie in as much as I could with phpBB so it would run smoothly and efficiently.

I'd love to hear what you think about the site

Thanks info! I'm sitting here and I made some images for the voting bars on the front page... they work fine, but now I've got some errors I need to fix...

*sigh* grr

Thanks though!

[Edit: Error fixed! Chalk one up for the programmer!]

Hi,

Justin here from the UK curently living in the good old US of A

I've been online for a few years toying around with HTML and about
a year ago started buying and installing PHP and CGI scripts.

I've just got master resell rights on a bunch of them and am looking
to learn more PHP so I can develop them a bit more...

Searched on Google, found this forum, so here I am ;-)

Regards
Justin

Hey, 16 and from sunny Scotland.
Started in php when I was 14, and now have a fairly good understanding of the basics (and some of the not so basics).

Other language experience includes C# and *cringe* visual basic.

Worked on a couple of projects, the latest being the website for my school,
