I've had some tough time with these
Waterfall Development projects now and
Agile Development is looking mighty nice. Do you have any advice on how to break it down for a newbie manager to get him to understand the benefits and methods of agile without having to read a novella?

If neither the employee or the employer can list of benefits off the top of their head, then the first step would be for both of them to learn the techniques. A lot of employers are looking to make short term ROI off an employee, and if sold on the technique, and then found out the employee didn't actually know it, would be faced with a steep learning curve.
I would sum up the benefits as including but not limited to the fact that you discover problems sooner with an iterative development, with a waterfall development you might just wake up one day and realize you've been putting yourself into "technical debt" since day 1

The authors of the books written on the subject are usually trying to sell you on the idea of Agile/XP using the very arguments you could use to convince your managers.
