Hi All,
I have read through all of this and I have to say that we have digressed to a point that I have never before witnessed on these forums... although I may have missed a post or two along the way.
I find it interesting how one rude, inconsiderate, egotistic, poorly spoken individual that doesn't even bother to capitalize the word "I" ( which consequently seems to be the most important word in his limited vocabulary other than "Dude" ) can bring out the worst in all of us... including myself.
I would suggest that you reconsider the manor in which you ask for help. This one seems to be less effective than not asking for help at all. Not to mention, it wastes a lot of people’s time… time that they could well have used to answer OTHER people’s posts to the group. You have, in effect, created more of the exact thing that you complain about not to mention, this incredibly long and useless thread.
Yep, “i” find that interesting… Dude.

Unfortunatley I let myself be drawn into this... until the point where I couln't be bothered.

In the future, if people start to flame in order to draw attention to one of their posts, I think the post should be deleted, or moved to a locked forum or something.

How about placing a "PHP Newbie Forum" and move posts such as these there?

Not for people trying to learn.
I don't have a problem with a newbie coming to the forum asking for help.
I have a problem when they start bitching at people they have no right to bitch at.

actually we should have a Jail Forum... where the post will sit, locked. No one can reply for 30 days. Call it the drunk tank :)

Now there is the beginning of a good idea.
How would that work? Would there have to be say... five votes to send someone's post to the drunk tank? That way we retain a little democracy.

Jail forum  ... The less subtle banning approach can work well too  .

I would like to say how nice it was that this did not descend into a massive flame war. Everyone was relatively civil and they still tried to help the guy in his other thread.

Good on ya guys.

I would go with that Jail forum.

I think that if someone is abusing the forum, someone can call for a vote to move it to Jail. This counts as a +jail.

4 more different people should then be needed to submit a +jail for the post to be sent to jail.

However any person has the power to veto the vote by submitting a -jail (on the grounds that they think it's a worthwhile post).

Any ideas?

Take your "highly reputable" name somewhere else if you don't like the forum.

I think everyone, in order to join this community and post, should have to read http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html and take a test on it. If they pass, then they are given the right to post, otherwise, they have to retake the test. That article is one of the most informative articles out there and 99% of the posting problems can be fixed if people would just read it.
