We are trying to rank a website homepage for a couple of strong keywords, however we have links to internal pages within the homepage, plus H2 tags that are around these internal page keywords.

Is this bad? Is it better to concentrate the homepage on the core keywords, and let the menu (and links within paragraphs) do the rest?

We usually do image and Header Tag links to various services within the company, but for some reason, these few keywords are struggling a little, whereas the keywords on the internal pages, ranking really well.

For example, if the core keywords are Web Designer, and Website Designer, should terms for SEO, Social media etc all be kept well away from the body of the homepage. OR added as they are services within the company?
