My Website :)

Post by jackpf »

Hello everyone,

About a couple of months ago or so, I had a bit of a redesign of my site. I just thought I'd ask what people thought of it. It's just a personal site, started out to learn how to code...and it sort of evolved from there to what it is now. It's not commercial or anything, I don't plan on making money from it.

Anyway, the url: http://jackpf.co.uk

There are 3 main parts to the site - the forum, profiles, and my blog.

I'm just interested in what fellow web developers/designers think of it. Web design is not my strong point, I much prefer coding...so don't be too harsh :P

I currently don't have a test account set up, but if you'd prefer to use one instead of registering, just ask and I'll set one up.

So yeah, anything you'd do different, or think could be improved? Btw, it's been designed for "real" browsers, things may look a bit odd in IE. I'm not really too bothered though tbh.

Thanks for any input,
Jack.

I don't understand it. It doesn't explain what it is or what it's about.

It's just a forum basically. It's not really "about" anything in particular.

It's just a place for myself and people I know to converge and converse really.

It looks good (even in IE), but I was also a bit confused at what it was about. Add a blurb there like: "I'm Jack. Join my forum and no one will tell you you don't know jack again." Seriously though a bit of info would help random people out, unless it is only for leet ppl.

I'm curious if google is indexing your forum posts. I've wondered how to do that. It seems bbphp2 and bbphp3 get indexed well, but rather than figure out why, I thought I'd ask if you know or if yours is indexed without extra effort.

I guess "Uhh...I'm Jack. Welcome to my realm..." isn't particularly descriptive :P

I don't know...I'm not a particularly imaginative person :P I just tried making a blurb, and ended up babbling on about how I programmed the site....which is probably not what people want to read. I'll have a think and see what I can come up with.

Yeah...searching google it appears that at least some of my threads/forums have been indexed.

I haven't put any effort into doing this, I guess it's down to google. I do sometimes link to threads from the index page...so maybe google picks them up from there. Who knows...

All my forum posts (including other forums, which totals around a couple of thousand) have a link to my site in my signature though...that's where I get most of my link backs from. I find that I have some kind of bot crawling my site almost all day as well (you can see how many bots are online on the index page). I can't explain why they index particular threads and not others though....

Thanks for the feedback :)
