A CMS compatible with my standards

Post by suuunly »

Hi, I love to create CSS/jQuery based websites. But I promised to built my father a website, and he was no skills in this field what so EVER! ( you know... adding content and such ) So it was quite clear to me, that I needed a CMS.

Problem is that I looked around the internet and found out that it was a bad idea to build my own, but instead use an already created CMS. This sounded all nice and dandy for me, because my dad wants some specific features on his website, meaning:

- RSS feed ( BLOG )
- Gallery
- Ordering / contacting

And I've heard that these features aren't easy to implement to your own cms. + I'm not very good with SEO and security.

But my standards for the cms, is that I have FULL control over the websites layout ( front-end ), but I can't find any cms which gives me both of these possibilities.
I tried Joomla and I enjoyed it, because of the many awesome features, but I noticed when I searched for some self-made layouts, they where all kinda the same, you know: small header on top, Basic roll over Main menu, navigation panel on the left, main content, footer.
What I need is floating boxes, pop up boxes, animating buttons, and much much more.

So my conclusion is:
Is Joomla up for this task? I'm not really sure, because I haven't really done that much research, or could you please navigate me to another cms which can fulfill my needs?

Thanks, your help is much appreciated! :D

My scripting/programing skill level:
XHTML : 9/10
CSS : 8/10
Javascript : 6/10
jQuery : 9/10
Ajax : 0/10
XML : 2/10
PHP : 4/10

Just use Wordpress. You'll probably find a plugin for anything you need to do anyway. There's also a lot of themes available for it.

I don't think you quite understand... I want to create my own layout, not use any fancy template stuff already created. The reason for this is because I want my website to stand out from the heard, and not have the same standard layout that these kind templates usually bring to the table ( maybe pretty and such, but same typical layout )

Creating a Wordpress template is much easier than writing a CMS from scratch.
