newbie advice on ui design

Post by sliknik »

Hi
I have been asked to work on a project as a ui designer, I have about 12 years photoshop experience and web design experience to. In general for this kind of work do I just need to provide assessment and proposals for the original ui and then design the photoshop files, or do i need to provide the images layed out in html and css?
Sorry this might sound a bit a bit dopey but the opportunity offered to me is a great one and don't really want to o turn it down.

I would really appreciate your help on this

thanks

A "UI designer" can be anything from an artist who does page comps to a Javascript programmer. At a minimum you would need to create design comps, generate sized/compressed production images, have an understanding of CSS, and be able to work in a team.

I think if you can do design layouts, create comps, produce web ready images, use Dreamweaver and know some HTML and CSS ... then I think most programmers could use you as a designer and artist. Go forth and make beautiful websites!

Learning HTML and CSS will surely be a great step as Christopher said.Beside that Being a UI designer mean you need to do make high quality designs and graphics. You need to make great layouts for various websites and with learning and knowledge of some programming you find your tasks more easier. You are asked to make interfaces and other interaction layers too. UI designer is a great designation and you should grab it with your both hands. Just learn some more skills with your existing ones, you'll do great. Thanks.
