SEO: Is a homepage video a good idea?

Hi there. This is possibly more of a personal view question than, but I think it touches on SEO too.

We are looking at replacing a 3-image slider with a video from iStock.
Each slide has for a different page within the website, so the alt tags are not relevant to the keywords for the homepage.

The video would be embedded in the header, rather than a "play" Embed Youtube iframe.

I Want to know:
a) are these sorts of videos good for SEO (or make no difference)
b) your view of a video that plays. This is one that is not erratic or "funny on the eyes".

Thanks.

Can't speak to the SEO aspect of it, but generally (and this may just be me), if I open a page that auto-plays a video, I very quickly close that page.

Thanks my friend. I abandoned the idea of it at the top. And only in the page on a button.
