The "Lol" Smiley

Post by jackpf »

Does anyone else find it stupid or is it just me?

I'd prefer the word "lol" to render as...the word "lol" in my posts tbh. I constantly find myself turning off smileys in the post options so that I don't have that smiley...and then of course none of my meaningful smileys are parsed.

Anyway...just wondering what you guys think? 8O

I think there's an option in phpBB to disable various smileys...I just thought I'd "put it out there" that I'm in favour of this one being "removed".

Thank you for your time.

Regards,
Jack.

Exactly, it looks <span style='color:blue' title='I&#39;m naughty, are you naughty?'>smurf</span> ridiculous.

It does. I think that instead of translating "lol," it should only translate "" into the smiley, like all of the other smileys.

We will not modify the source code of PHPBB (for reasons explained 1000x previously) unless absolutely necessary.

A quick solution to this problem is to express yourself using proper words, or step it up a bit and use rofl instead. 8)

I thought you could define your own (or remove) smileys in the phpBB admin panel? I wasn't suggesting you edit the source...

I could be wrong though :?

And "rofl"?! Real words!??! Are you mad??

No way.

this is obviously the best smiley: 8O

i love it.

Hmm...but if what superdezign suggested is put into action, you can still use it...and those of us who find it annoying don't have to.

Maybe the others would see more use if they were renamed.

8O - kick to the nuts
:x - constipated
 - Heh Heh. I'm a dork
:o - Look! I can fit my hand in my mouth
8) - My glasses haven't adjusted from being outside but I sure look cool
:P - My tongue can reach my chin.
 - There sure is a lot of porn on the internet. (what is this anyway? Mr. Green?!)

Sorry, just my poor attempt at humor. 8O

I found it slightly amusing :P

So....I guess my request has just been completely ignored anyways. I found a work around - if you put 'lol it won't parse. I guess I'll just have to use that.....

Yeah I guess. Or maybe they're just :drunk:

And yeah "L0L". Kind of makes it stand out a bit...still not quite satisfactory.

I suppose l0l is ok though. Doesn't make it seem like you're shouting so much.

Makes me seem like I'm trying to be some l33t kid or something though :/
