As a certain boss of mine used to say, "Subject said it all." Yeah... English was not his native language.

..."XML" is not really an
acronym, so you might want to adjust the description.

Sure it is Brian, E[x]tensible [M]arkup [L]anguage. Fits the acronym discripttion right on the head.

Calling "XML" an acronym is sort of like calling any cola a "Coke". It may be accepted by a lot of people, but it just isn't quite right. Lately, a lot of people may be calling such things as "XML" acronyms, but they are all practicing the ancient art of Ri-Ching. Strictly speaking, an acronym should be pronounceable as a word, NOT just as initials. The latter definition is an abomination and using it very well may send you straight to Hell with people who smoke near other people in public, people who litter, and people who don't use turn signals.

More like hitting a nail on the side and damaging both it and the thing you were trying to nail it into. Ouch!

The description has been changed to reflect people's current attitudes towards the acronymness of XML.

acronym
An identifier formed from some of the letters (often the initials) of a phrase and used as an abbreviation. This dictionary contains a great many acronyms;
Explain how XML is not exactly that.
