Members' products advertising

Post by VladSun »

How do you feel about having a section (or permission to post in particular sections) where active members (e.g. count(posts) > 500, or 1000, or 1500, ... ) may advertise their *own* products (especially if they are open source products)?

I think most of us are either freelancers, or small business owners and advertising is very important to us...

Can you put a poll up? If enough members think it's a good idea, I don't think the mods will have a problem with making a section dedicated to project advertising. I'm not sure if we can limit it to members with > 500 (for example) posts. Maybe if we had a manual process where members have to ask permission?
Real programmers don't comment their code. If it was hard to write, it should be hard to understand.

OK, I've put a poll up. I know that site admins of this forum tend to stay away from forum mods, so probably a PM-ed permission asking would be a better idea.

In fact open-source advertising is allowed (in form of press-releases in General Discussion forum).
Forum rules wrote: 14.3 [...] An open source business may post press releases in the General Discussion forum, and only that forum.

I also think it's interesting to see what the members here are doing when not writing in the forum. :)

Share their project or ask for critique... yes (must be written in PHP)

Advertise... no... (except open source stuff)
