Hi All,

Just a bit of an idea, but here it is...

I think it would be cool if PHPDN could put out a monthly, or bi-monthly e-magazine. It would work like this:

*Editor in Chief posts a topic to gather article suggestions
*People volunteer to write articles
*e-magazine team prepares the articles
*PDF is assembled, and uploaded to server
*eMail is sent to everyone who has signed up with a link to the PDF
*some page somewhere is updated with a link so we have a list of archives (maybe a sticky in an e-magazine topic?)

I'm willing to help coordinate!

That's a great idea. The issue we have is that all sorts of people volunteer but never agree on anything, and if they do they end up not doing any work.

Ya, I've seen that (and likely contributed) time and time again. If you really want this thing to happen, you should be willing to write a lot of the articles yourself - at least to start with - but I do think it'd be a neat idea.

I would expect that. The way I think of it, the first "editions" would probably be 3-5 articles, anyway. The hope would be that as time goes on, we start to get more contributions, and it grows to a more filled-out publication.

A good article would be: "How to store images in MySQL". I've even got the first paragraph written:
Future article will have wrote:Don't do it!

See if you can get people to commit to six months of articles -- so 18 articles. If you can get commitments to that many articles, then you could have a reasonable run. Even if it dies after that it would be a good library of information.

Well, I'll anticipate writing one per issue, so, 6. Anyone else on this thread willing to put in a few articles?

If you all give me the OK, I'll start a thread and see if we can get some specifics for the first issue.

I'll do beginner's tips sort of articles, so I'll start with one dealing with the different types of strings in PHP and what you can do with them. (Single quote, double quote, and heredoc)
