PHP Competitions

Post by Saethyr »

I was sitting here thinking that it would be cool to do a competition on here to do something along the lines of writing a completely functional, say a PHP timeclock application in the least (filesize total) amount of code. I would be willing to give the winner some space on my hosting site or something. Whatcha think?

Nice idea, but I'd suggest the following:
  • take a post from the code snippets forum
  • try to improve the snippet
  • post the improved one to that thread
  • voting will determine the best improvement attempt
what do you think?

Is there a last prize? If so, I might be a little more interested. :)

What about sending the winner 1$ bill in his currency (depending on where he lives) :P
and btw for the competition it might not be a good idea but here goes :

- ppl join the contest befor a said date
- Person who runs the competition start a theme and as soon as the theme is announce the competitoino start
- According to the theme every one make somehting (on there website) and ppl just send there url or there code in a zip.. (whatever)
-There would be different critere like : time it took, quality, bugs etc

EX :
Announcement : The competition start on 3rd day of the 10th month 2003
theme : Language traduction (omg i realkly didn't have any idea :P)
Time : (there would be a time limit let s say a week) within the week the ppl that submit there response first win more point (or not..just some suggestion there)
Judgment day : Everyone get a score and the 3 best one are awarded and we can see there code and we can compare..

PS : My strategy is not "bribery" proof... so i guess you could send a 50$ bill to get "first" in the time list...

So, I would like to take the challenge :D :D But please do not make the competition between December 27th and 5th January ;) - I am on holiday and without access to the Internet. :D :D :)

BTW: Great idea, I was once participating in something like this. My friend made a similar contest on our university forum. I won a 2 points (3 points max) and received a "Smok" (in english: Dragon). Little Dragon was not beautifull :D but it was awsome to take the challenge.

How about we do this, I will spend the next couple weeks coming up with an idea. I will post said Idea on My Birthday ;) Jan 6th and give 1 month to complete it. I will also post the prize at that time. I promise not to make it something shotty, it will be a decent gift. I will have to say I am going to TRY to make it difficult as I will be paying for the competition prize.

Saethyr that'll be kewl, but maybe you''ll want to get good php coders to help you be the "judge" (of course judge can't participate)
and you should come with a "point" system so when you get all submission your not "confused" as how you'll choose a winner

cuz there may be 30 ppl with codes that works.. how to choose the best when they all are optimized...

cheers :)
