Just my vote ... they are annoying and make me dizzy. :x

My view is that it's up to users to do what they want with the alloted bandwidth.

However it might be good to have an option to allow low-bandwidth users to toggle ALL avatars on/off. Of course that means persuading someone to take time out to do the necessary mods 8O.

Get Mozilla Firebird and stop animations from playing more than once or even at all.

If a particular avatar is really getting irritating, e-mail or pm the owner and ask if they could tone it down a tad. If you get no joy, pm their names and I'll take a look at the situation. I know that I find the web a much more joyful place since limiting animations to one cycle.

Hunt around in "tools/more options".

If you've got the Preferential extential installed go to tools->Advanced Preferences, or if not type about:config in the address bar either will do. Then scroll down to the image.animation_mode and set it to once or none. As McGruff said, if you've got the Things They Left Out extension you can do this via Tools->More Options. Of course you could also edit your user.js to set this property.

Thanks! The about:config way worked. I don't have the extra leftout extensions.
