I think this would be a great addition and should only affect a few files
its really frustrating when you're having a discussion with someone just for it to suddenly end, having a "last user login" would tell us when they last logged in.
Also it would be very handy for when you've offered a "proposition" to a client and they havent replied, this way you'd know if it was because they havent seen it yet or they've refused
hopefully this can be implemented

You couldn't tell from a "last login" whether the user had read any particular thread.
There's something that feels not quite right about being able to track other users' actions on a site.
I think that it's up to the individual whether they want to post or not - if you don't hear from them you can take it that they don't have anything else to say.
You could pm someone, but I'd personally feel that, in most situations, this would be a (minor) breach of etiquette ie I wouldn't want to nag anyone.

how about the option in your profile to enable the feature (hide or show) then people can decide
I think it would be great, and i personally have no reason to "hide" whether im on-line or not
the script would take 10 mins to write up, what about a test run?
**EDIT**
and if "privacy" is the reason then why can i view the whois script and check where everyone is in the site?

Because no one knows of the view online script

. I've been using phpbb boards for a long time, and I only found out about that after about 1 years of posting on various phpbb boards.

That was just my opinion by the way not some kind of policy statement. That's how I'd vote unless I was persuaded otherwise.
